Today we are going to speak about music in our life.Everyone likes music:some prefer classical music,others are fond of light music.

Music

Music brings joy,

to all of our hearts,

It's one of those,

emotional arts.

Sounds of melodies,

that we truly adore,

Brings us pure pleasure,

as our spirits do soar.

Music that touches us,

we can't help but smile,

We're free to choose,

genre or style.

Music clearly,

enlightens our days,

Makes us happy,

in so many ways.

Do you like listen to music? Why?

S₁: Yes, I like music, because it helps me to relax when I’m tired and entertains me when I’d like to have fun

S₂: Yes, I like music. Listening to music is an important part of my life, I can’t live a day without it.

There are many genres of music. What are they?

There are such genres of music: jazz, rap, pop, metal, classical, funk, rock-n-roll

Now, we are listening several fragments, which belong to different genres but before it we should read some information about them.

What specific features do musical genres have? What instruments are used? To know it draw attention to the blackboard. Here there is table with different genres and its specific features. Let’s read some information about them.

Thank you. Now, I would like to offer you to listen to some musical fragments which belong to different genres. Your task is to match the fragment with its genre.

For example: the fragment 6 belongs to pop genre, so we should put down figure 6 in front of “pop”.

Now, go to the blackboard put down your answer and try to explain it using this hint.

What genre of music do you like? Why? Answer the questions using well-known for you adjectives.

What music irritates you?

S₁ : My favorite music is jazz. I also enjoy rock and folk music but I hate pop and dance. They are so loud and annoying!

S₂: My favorite music is rock-n-roll. I also adore pop music, but I dislike organ music. It’s very boring.

S₃: It depends on my mood. When I’m tired and can’t even move a finger I’d prefer listening to something quiet. And when I’m full of energy I’d rather listen to passionate, breathtaking or overwhelming music.

S₁: Tuneless music and foolish songs irritate me greatly. I switch off the radio quickly if I hear something cluttered or boring.

I see,young generation likes to listen another kind of music.they have other interests.They are engaged in Hi-Tech through the Internet. Most young people like pop music but there are teenagers who prefer Rossini to rock and Beethoven to rap.

I think you have some “pros” on classical music and you have some “cons” on it. What do you think about classical music?

S₁: I think classical music appeals to my heart and feelings

S₂: I find it annoying, it puts me to sleep

S₃: This music always makes you to have emotions or associations, as though reading a good book and, together with its heroes live among them.

S₄: Classical music also enhances the memory of a man. Our life without classical music, like as a novel with no idea.

You see, classical music has more positive qualities then negative. In addition, scientists proved that listening to classical music has a beneficial effect on the physical and the moral state of a man, that’s why I prefer you to listen to three fragments of classical music and try to match them with the pictures which we can see on the screen.

Explain your choice. What feelings does this music arouse in you?

We’ve listened to the tunes of Sergei Rachmaninoff “Spring waters”, Peter Tchaikovski “Autumn song” and Vivaldi “Storm”

S₁: The 1st tune is breathtaking and overwhelming. It portrays an early spring when the nature wakes up from winter.

S₂: The 2nd tune is melancholy. It portrays a dark autumn day and cold rainy weather. This tune disappointed me.

S₃: The 3d tune is intriguing. The power and agitation of this music captivated me.

There are many musical events in Great Britain. Promenade Concerts or “Proms” as they are usually called, are monthly events in Britain. It is one of the greatest musical events. Everybody wants to be there and enjoy musical masterpieces. But much depends on behavior during a concert. So, everybody should know some rules. Look at the board. There is a picture, which gives us some advice.

What do you find most annoying?

S₁: You mustn’t drink or eat during the performance.

You must ensure that all phones are switched off.

You mustn’t take pictures. You must try not to cough during the music.

I think people who eat, cough or take photos during the concert disturb the others and don’t let them listen to the music, and the alarms make people around you annoyed.

S₂: I find most annoying when people eat and drink during the performance because it shows their disrespect towards the musicians and the rest of the audience.
