| T: Students, today you will participate in a quiz show aimed at checking your knowledge of cinematography. We’ve spoken about cinema, different genres of cinematography for a long time. Today we’ll see how you remember it. I suggest that you should divide into two teams. Besides, think of the name of your team. Формируются команды. T: Two teams take part in our quiz show today. The first one is called «Team 1» and the second one is called «Team 2». Before beginning the quiz let me introduce the members of the jury. They are ... And I’d like to say a few words about the rules of the quiz. They are simple. The team, which answers or does a task quicker than the other one, gets a point. The members of the team, which will win, will get excellent marks. The members of the other team will get good marks. Do you agree with the rules of the competition? Cl: Yes, we do. T: Good, let’s begin our game. Task № 1. T: When we spoke about the history of Hollywood, we mentioned that the first colour film was shot in that world cinema empire. What is this film? P1: It’s «Gone with the Wind». T: Right you are. Now you’ll listen to the story about making a film of «Gone with the Wind». You’ll listen to it only once. Be ready to answer my questions. The student who will be the first to raise a hand and to give a correct answer, will get a point for his/her team. Are you ready? Cl: Yes. T: Then listen to the story carefully. Ведущий читает текст. P8: T: Let’s learn the score after the first task. Jury: … T: Let’s continue the quiz. Task № 2 T: Now each team will get a sheet of paper with a mind map on it. The mind map is called Hollywood. Look at it. Only some sections are filled in. You are supposed to fill in all the sections and to make up the story about Hollywood. Try to make your story as interesting as possible and use our active vocabulary. We’ll give you 5 minutes. The team, whose story will be the more interesting, will get more points. Приложение № 2. Team 1: Team 2 T: Thank you, guys... You’ve done the task perfectly well, but what will the Jury decide? Jury: … T: Our competition becomes sharper and sharper. The teams don’t let each other rush forth but we have two more tasks. They will decide everything. Task №3. T: While speaking about cinematography you’ve learnt a lot of its genres. I hope that you remember them; otherwise you’ll lose the following task. Now I’ll read the reviews of some films. You should identify their genres. If you give the name of the film, you’ll get additional points. Listen to me carefully. 1) «The Hound of Baskervilles» (detective) Dart moor: a wild, wet and dangerous place in the south west of England. A man is running for his life. An enormous dog – a dog from his worst dreams, a dog from hell is coming behind him. And only one person stands between him and a terrible death. This person is the greatest detective of all, Sherlock Holmes. P1: 2) «Madame Doubtfire» (comedy) Miranda Hilliard does not live with her husband, Daniel. One day Madame Doubtfire comes to work for Miranda to help with looking after the children. But Mirande Doubtfire seems strange, more like a man that a woman! P2: 3) «Dracula» (horror film) Count Dracula is a vampire. He drinks people’s blood. He lives in a lonely castle in the mountains of a distant country. But then he comes to England… Professor van Helsing knows about vampires, but can he stop Dracula? P3:
It’s six years since the disaster at Jurassic Park and the park is closed, the island deserted, the dinosaurs are destroyed and the scientist’s dreams are ruined. But there are rumors that something has survived. Is the nightmare beginning again? The film is directed by Steven Spielberg. P4 : T: Thanks a lot. You are really good at identifying genres of cinematography and you know a lot of films. Now let’s listen to the jury. Jury: … T: We have one task left. It will be a decisive task. Task № 4 T: At one of our lessons we listened to the story about Russian cinematography. It’s very good if you remember it. Now each team we’ll get strips of paper with sentences from this story on them. You are supposed to combine them in a logical order and to get the whole story about Russian cinematography. The team, which will be the first, will get more points. Here are the strips. Приложение № 3. Дети выполняют задание. In 1926 Margaret Mitchell, a journalist and housewife from Atlanta, Georgia, started to write a book. She finished it ten years later. It was called «Gone with the Wind». It became the most popular American novel of the time.
It is a long, romantic and exciting novel. It is about a beautiful young woman, Scarlett O’Hara and twelve years in her life just before, during and after the American Civil War (1862-64). In the book Scarlett marries Rhett Butler, the tall, dark and handsome hero, but she doesn’t love him. All the time she loves someone else. But the man she loves is married.
David O. Selznick, Hollywood film producer, decided to make a film of «Gone with the Wind». He chose a famous film star of the time, Clark Gable, for the part of Rhett Butler, but he could not find anyone for the part of Scarlett. He searched and searched for two and half years. No one was quite right. In the end there was no more time. Plans for the film were ready. On the night of December 10th, 1938, all the cameras were ready to film an important scene in the film – the burning of the city Atlanta. Selznick still did not have an actress for Scarlett.
At the time, Vivien Leigh, a young British actress, was in Hollywood with her fiancé, Laurence Oliver. Selznick brother, Myron, knew the couple and asked them to come and watch the fire scene. He took them to the studios, found his brother, David, and tapped him on the shoulder. David O. Selznick turned round. There, in the light of the fire, he saw the beautiful face Vivien Leigh. «David, here’s your Scarlett», Myron said. Vivien Leigh won the most famous part in the history of the cinema – Scarlett O’Hara, the heroine of «Gone with the Wind».
It was a long and difficult film to make, but on December 11th, 1939 Selznick sent this telegram to a colleague: «Have just finished «Gone with the Wind God bless us all. Screening at two tomorrow Tuesday for 750 journalists».
The film was nearly four hours long. At the end the journalists sat quietly for a moment and then they cheered and cheered.
On the day of the premiere the Mayor of Atlanta closed all the schools and public buildings. «Gone with the Wind» became a famous film and it made a lot of money. They called it «the greatest motion picture of all time». «Gone with the Wind» won eight awards, including an award for the best actress of the year and for the best direction.
