План урока

I. Beginning.

T: Good morning, children!

T: I am glad to see you. Are ready for the lesson? At the beginning of our lesson answer some of my questions:

1. What is the date today?

2. What date was yesterday?

3. What day is it today?

4. What day will be tomorrow?

5. What season is it now?

Insert.

- It’s so simple to tell you the topic of our lesson, but I know you can guess it. I’d like you to listen to the recording and say what is it in one word

T: What have you heard?

S: Sounds, Nature.

T: What for depends on sounds of the nature?

S: Season, weather, months.

T: And what we may say about weather conditions specific to a particular area? What is it?

S: Climate?

T: Right you are. So what do you think about the topic of our lesson? Can you tell it?

S: Well, about weather and climate.

T: You’re absolutely right.

II. Phonetic drill.

Whenever the weather is cold.

Whenever the weather is hot.

We'll weather the weather,

whatever the weather,

whether we like it or not.

III. Development.

Т: How many seasons are there in a year? What are they?

S: There are four seasons in a year.

T: How many months are there in a year?

S: There are twelve months in a year.

T: Let’s remember how can we build adjectives which can help us to describe the weather? (cloud, snow, rain, storm, fog, wind, sun) + -y (на доске примеры существительных).

S: We should add the suffixes –y to the noun.

T: Now you will work in pairs. On the desk you can find The Sun and the Clouds. You should describe Fine Weather and Nasty weather.

- When the weather is fine, it’s bright and sunny.

- When the weather is nasty, it’s windy and rainy.

T. Well done. And now guess what it is.

1. This is the season, when it’s freezing cold and frosty. (Winter)

- What are winter months?

- What can you do in winter?

- Does it snow in winter?

2. This is the season, when nights are short, and children have plenty of fun and sport. Boating, swimming all the day, with a merry song on a sunny day. (Summer)

- I think summer is the best season of a year, do you agree?

- Is it sometimes stormy in summer?

- Is it sometimes rainy in summer?

- What are summer months?

3. T. This is the season, when birds make their nests, when it’s getting warmer and warmer. Sometimes it’s rainy. (Spring)

- What are spring months?

T. What season is it now? This is the season, when fruit is sweet. This is the season, when school-friends meet. (Autumn)

- Is it windy or calm in autumn?

- Is it sometimes rainy in autumn?

- What are autumn months?

T: It’s time to have a bit of exercises. Stand up, please!

Hands up! Shake, shake. Hands down! Shake, shake.

Raise your hands when you hear the word about the weather: foggy, tennis, warm, hot, friends, cold, monkeys, frosty, stormy, good-looking, snowy, rainy.

Clap your hands when you hear the season: autumn, August, spring, favourite, rain, summer, winter.

Speaking. Warming-up activity.

- Work in pairs. Look at the weather map and the climate chart, then ask and answer questions on the weather and climate in different countries and cities.

Example:

- What’s the weather like in Rome? – It’s stormy. The temperature is +12 C

T: Let’s compare different adjectives (учащиеся вспоминают правило образования степеней сравнения прилагательных и выполняют задание).

  1. Winter in Russia is (cold) than in the USA.

  2. December, February and January are the (good) months for travelling to Australia.

  3. The weather in Britain is (changeable) than in the USA.

  4. The days are the (short) in December in Russia.

  5. There are (many) foggy days in Britain than in any other country.

Teacher: I suggest you to put the words in the right order and make up questions, mind the word order in special questions.

Reading, listening and writing

T: Let’s read texts about the climate and weather in English-speaking countries and Russia. Find the answers in the texts about the climate and the weather in different countries, discuss the questions in your group, and be ready to present the results of your discussion.

1. In Russia the climate is different. It is colder in the north than in the south. The north is famous for its ice, snow and low temperatures but in the south, the weather is warm in winter and hot in summer. Russia, as you know, is a very cold country with a continental climate, typically characterized by long winters and short summers.

During summer it often gets pretty hot. In Moscow, for example, it is not surprising to have summer temperature above 30C (86F).

Russia is a largest country in the world, with eleven time zones, and it is almost twice as big as USA.

As you understand climate can be different in different areas of the country.

It is softer near the Black Sea, this area has mild winters but it has a lot of rain all the year round.

In the central areas of Russia, the difference of temperature between winter and summer is huge, 30+ C in summer, and -30 C in the winter.

September is a beautiful month in almost all Russian territory. The temperature is not that hot and not yet cold. October is a rainy season and from November to April Russian weather is very cold.

2. The USA is a large country in North America. The country extends from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to the islands of Hawaii in the Pacific, and from cold, snowy Alaska to sunny Florida in southeast. The US has nearly every kind of weather.

Most of the territory is marked by sharp differences between winter and summer. Average winter temperature is about 25 degrees below zero in Alaska and up to 20 degrees above zero in Florida. Average summer temperature varies from 14 degrees above zero in the western part and up to 32 degrees above zero in the southeast.

The largest amount of rainfall is noted in Alaska and the southwest of the country.

In winter, the northern part of the USA usually has a steady snow cover.

IV. Home task: - to solve a crossword, but first off all you should solve the riddles (Приложение 4).

Т: - Well, boys and girls we’ve done a lot of work today. It was pleasure to discuss such serious problems with you. We’ll have practice another time. Your marks are ...

T: - Be ready with your home task to the next studies. Our lesson is over. Good bye.
