London

The centre of everything in Great Britain is the city of London. London consists of four main parts, which differ from each other. These are the City, Westminster, the West End and the East End. The West End is famous for its cafes, restaurants, museums, shops and parks. Rich people live there. The East End is the part where working people live. It’s famous for its industrial plants. London’s industries are varied (разнообразные). Among them are docks and port industries, electrical engineering, the motor car industry and others. 

Oxford and Cambridge

Oxford was first mentioned (упомянут) in the tenth century and later became an important trade centre. Then it developed into leading educational centre. It’s 100 km away from London. It is the second largest university in Britain after London University. It was founded in 911. Now there are 27 colleges for men, 5 for women and 5 others are for both.

Cambridge is also best known for its ancient university. There are 31 colleges here, some dating as far back as 1284, when Cambridge University was established. A lot of famous people studied at Cambridge. They are Sir Isaac Newton, Oliver Cromwell, Charles Darwin. The river Cam flows across the town. The best way to enjoy views of the city and its colleges from the water is to have a short boat trip.


Brighton

Brighton is one of the most popular seaside resorts of Britain. It has mild climate, warm sea and wonderful beaches. It has been welcoming holidaymakers since the 18th century. It is known as the green capital of Britain and its ecological situation is much better than in other cities. In 2019 Brighton topped the list of the best places to live and work.
