1.The first stop is in the past. We have studied information about two famous travelers. What are their names?

Yes, they are Shokan Ualikhanov and Cristopher Columbus.

You will work in groups. Two groups will have a text about C. Columbus, two other groups about S.Ualikhanov. The activity’s name is “A newspaper redactor”. You need to find and correct the mistakes in the articles. (Texts - Appendix 1)

2. Our next stop is our present time. We have read information and most of you visited two big cities. What are they? Let’s see what you know about that.

Each of you will have a stripe with a question or an answer. The first student read the first question and the student who has the answer read that. Let’s start. Please, remember your pair.( Appendix 2)

I invite to the last station for today. It’s the territory of different islands. You have stickers.   1. Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1592. He was born in India but lived in Russia for a long time. He was a doctor and made many sea voyages. In 1692 the King and the Queen of Spain gave him money to go to India. He decided to sail west as he was sure that our planet was square. And after sailing 4000 miles, he reached some land. Columbus thought that it must be India but it was not. It was America – Central America in fact. People began to speak about the land as “the Old World”.

Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. He was born in Italy but lived in Spain for a long time. He was a seaman and made many sea voyages. In 1492 the King and the Queen of Spain gave him money to go to India. He decided to sail west as he was sure that our planet was round. And after sailing 4000 miles, he reached some land. Columbus thought that it must be India but it was not. It was America – Central America in fact. People began to speak about the land as “the New World”.

  1. Shokan Ualikhanov was born in September in 1835. He was a Kazakh teacher, ethnographer and a historian. His father sent him to a small private school in 1852 when he was six. In 1847 he entered the medicine university in Omsk. He read a lot of books. He travelled in America in the late 1850s. During his travels he collected a lot of materials about traditions and customs of the people in the places he visited. He was seriously ill and died in 1890 at the age of 25.

Shokan Ualikhanov was born in November in 1835. He was a Kazakh scientist, ethnographer and a historian. His father sent him to a small private school in 1842 when he was six. In 1847 he entered the military academy in Omsk. He read a lot of books. He travelled in Central Asia in the late 1850s. During his travels he collected a lot of materials about traditions and customs of the people in the places he visited. He was seriously ill and died in 1865 at the age of 29.
