“Those who didn’t live in Arkhangelsk came to me to ask for a good way home and to thank for the successful sailing, and those who decided to link their fate with this city celebrated the milestones in their lives in me. I am one of a kind, because with my appearance I keep the memory of the medieval past of Europe, but I’m made of the most traditional northern material. They took off my clothes so that I would appear in my original form, but they never put them back on.”

4. What book was translated into English under him?
5. Of fidelity to what must all English priests swear when ordained?
6. When did the Anglican Church in Solombala appear in Arkhangelsk?
7. Why is it considered a unique architectural monument?

Remember the names of the English merchants and industrialists who owned production in our city and conducted trade.
“I am not the oldest one in Arkhangelsk, but those who, during their lifetime, were seeking some peace in different churches, found the same one on me. And those who fought in the same war, but in different trenches, are buried here. You need those whose descendants, decades later, will also come to our land on ships, but as allies.”
1. How did it happen that in Arkhangelsk a separate part of the cemetery was allocated for the graves of the British? Who were these people, and why did exactly Princess Anne come to lay flowers on their graves in 2016?
2. In Great Britain there is a tradition not to reburial the remains of their soldiers who died outside its borders. It is believed that they should rest in the land for which they fought. What other traditions can you remember in the British Army and Navy? Name at least 3 ones.

“I have a heroic past, but my story is always told the wrong way. I have never fought on the territory of the Arkhangelsk region, I was presented to the city in 1938. My brothers are in Kharkov, Lugansk and Kubinka, but unlike me, not under a glass cover.”

2. Who coined the word “tank” and why?
3. Tank “Mark-V”, installed in our city as a monument, in everyday life is called “female?” Were there any “male” tanks? How did they differ from each other?
“Here I stood, who gave the name to the whole city. I am very ancient, so that I do not even remember when I was founded. But the first time I was mentioned is 1419, when I was burned by the Norwegians. Then I burned more than once, and was transferred to another part of the city, and the Merchant Court was built on my place.”
England also experienced a Viking conquest in the late 10th century. In memory of this, there are hundreds of names of settlements, as well as borrowings in vocabulary and syntax. Find 5 items which names were borrowed into English from the Viking language.

In which war did the unsuccessful siege of the Solovetsky Monastery play a decisive role in the defense of the North from the British squadron? What were the real reasons for this war and the formal reason to start it?
“Almost no one knows that I was here. Nor do they remember the monastery to which I belonged. And once it thundered throughout Russia with glory no less than Solovetsky and Anthony-Siysky monasteries did. Now I am in such decay that walking by you won’t think that there is life in me and the small inhabitants of the city are learning one of the most beautiful arts within my walls.”
1. Name the only monastery in the country, in some rooms of which parts for nuclear submarines are made.
2. How are England, India and Arkhangelsk connected?
3. Why is there a rosehip flower on the coat of arms of Severodvinsk and how is this connected with the foundation of the Muscovy Company in London?
“I am here to show you the way forward. My arrangement is unusual for Orthodox churches, although I was built in honor of the most “traditional” saint for the North. My appearance is eye-catching. With what only I am not compared! But most of all I resemble the favorite Arkhangelsk delicacy – the Christmas gingerbread, kozulya.”
“I am an ugly testimony of the bad taste and mismanagement of the city authorities, which has grown on the site of a temple in honor of one of the main Christian holidays.”
Christmas is the main and favorite holiday of Christians around the world. Each country has its own traditions associated with its celebration. Briefly describe how Christmas is going in the UK.
“I am a place where they sell comfort and warmth, clothed in rustling bags with fragrant contents. This content is sold using a pre-revolutionary measure of weight equal to 28.3 g. I am poured with boiling water, and it turns out a drink that the British and Arkhangelsk people are equally madly in love with.”
In English, the drink is called tea, in Russian – chay. Why did it happen? After all, tea came to both countries from China.
“I am on a reserved street in Arkhangelsk. Next to me lies the most recognizable Pomor ship, and I am decorated with the most famous northern painting. Here you will be greeted cordially, fed deliciously and told about the traditions of northern cuisine.”
Arkhangelsk residents are called cod-eaters for their love of cod. But the British can compete for this title with us: they eat 60 thousand tons of this fish every year. They even fought three wars for her! Answer which state they fought with and when. Also, name an English fast food dish that is the unofficial culinary symbol of the British Isles.
“I can’t be called real estate, because I was moved 30 meters from where I was standing. They call me the property of the forester, but the merchants have always owned me. I am built in the Art Nouveau style, but at the same time I am horribly symmetrical. There is a legend that Robinson Kruse or even Defoe himself lived here, but this is not true.”
Neither Robinson nor Defoe, of course, could live in this house, because it was built much later. And what literary heroes of English literature “visited” Arkhangelsk? In what works is it mentioned?
“To find me, you must go to the south of the city, find an old fire tower and walk from it towards the river. Here I am – the forgotten embankment of Arkhangelsk. I bear the name of the hero of the Civil War, and I have preserved as many as 2 houses!”
Once upon a time along the banks of the river berths stretched: Smolny, Linen, Khlebny Buyans. The trading barns that stood here, like most similar buildings in Arkhangelsk, were built of material, the remains of which you can find if you go down to the river. It also bears the name of a Scottish town, which produced and supplied it to Russia and other countries in such quantities that now every 7th house in Europe is built from it. Find and photograph it.
“I am the last point of the route. Here they teach those who will justify the title “Arkhangelsk – the city of fishermen”.”
This area began to acquire in the 1920s, when fish production and the number of sailors increased. Then houses were built here, many of which are still standing. But once there was a forest here, in which the inhabitants of the neighboring village went to pick mushrooms and berries, and there was a mooring line for receiving fish from trawlers.
The name of the district is directly related to the tradition of using this Latin word to call settlements of European merchants in colonial countries or trade, supply and procurement points in remote fishing areas, which was facilitated by the location of this place 8 versts from the city. What is this area and what does the British have to do with it?
