Greetings from around the world

• The object of the research work  is greeting among people.
• The hypothesis of the research  is the importance to say hello.
• The main aims of my work are :
• -to find some information about greeting;
• -to identify and learn how to greet people in different countries;
• -to explore different ways of greeting people;
• -to do an experiment among students;
• -to analyze and compare the results of the   research work which I have made among the people of our school.

Introduction

• Our planet is great. Billions of people inhabit it. Travelling all over the world gets easier and easier. This life gives us so many opportunities to meet different people and interact with them. Hello is probably the first word that comes out of our mouth while starting a friendly conversation. Every country has its own history and culture. So we all are different. That’s why we sometimes don’t understand each other well when we first meet .There are many ways of greeting people. It depends on many things: your nationality, and culture, how well you know the person, your relative edges, and your gender. The theme of my project is «The importance of greeting». This theme is very interesting for me. I hope my work will give an opportunity to learn some of the most famous greeting in the world and it will be very useful for students and teachers too.

• Our planet is divided into many different countries which have many different races of people, different customs, and different manners. Each country has its own way of greeting people.

• Knowing how to greet people in different countries is not only useful but also fascinating and enjoyable to learn.
• It is customary to greet others when you meet them to acknowledge their presence and also to make your presence felt.
• A warm handshake is perhaps the most common form of greeting around the world. People also smile, wave at each other, and even hug to greet others.
• There are also countries where people kiss on one or both cheeks to greet others. However, there are many other different ways to greet other people in different cultures.

How to greet people in different countries

• How do people greet one another around the world?
• A kiss, a hug, a handshake, a bow: one of these, or something different, could be the proper way to greet someone depending on their country and culture.

• If you are a traveler visiting a foreign country, the first thing you notice is the manner in which people greet each other there.
• Even though a others in most parts of the planet, the following is a list of ways in which people greet others in different countries of the world.

Greetings in Russia

• Russians greet each other with hugs and three kisses.
• Usually, you would kiss the right cheek, then the left cheek, and then the right cheek again.
• This signifies the Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. You’ll find that many Russian customs are done in threes for this particular reason.
• Kissing on the cheeks is for both men and women . 

Greetings in UK

• Though handshaking is not uncommon, most people prefer to say Hello when meeting others. A handshake usually takes place when people meet a person for the first time.

Greetings in Japan

•   If you travel to Japan, knowing how to bow and greet in Japan can be helpful.
• Japanese do not shake hands in order not to penetrate into the private space of the person. They use bows: the more important person it is, the lower and longer the bow will be.
• This is their way of expressing respect to the other person.

GREETINGS IN the USA

• It is very common in US that if you see a person in the eye (if your looks connect with other person)  when you are walking down the street or anywhere in a building, to say a friendly phrase,“ Hi ! How are you doing ?”
• Typically you smile and then say the phrase.

Greetings in India

• You are going to impress your Indian partner or client if you greet them in their native language.
• To greet in India, Say Namaste while pressing both your palms together, fingers touching one another and pointing upward, and making a simple bow.

GREETINGS IN THAILAND

• To perform the traditional greeting, place your palm at the chest
• then bow your head so that your thums touch your chin and your fingertips touch your forehead.

GREETINGS IN France

• A handshake is often accompanied by a kiss on both cheeks. This takes place every time they meet and also when they leave.

GREETINGS IN Tibet

• You will be surprised to know that people stick their tongues out when meeting others.
• It is believed that by sticking tongues out, they show that they do not have any evil thoughts inside.

Nigeria: Snapping fingers handshake

• In Nigeria, young people usually greet each other in a special way, where they snap their fingers in the process of a handshake.
• This handshake is not very easy, so you actually need a Nigerian to teach you how to snap fingers while shaking hands.

GREETINGS IN Maori people

• Known as hongi, this traditional Māori greeting in New Zealand is done by pressing your nose and forehead to another person’s at the same time. GREETINGS IN NEW ZEALAND
• In New Zealand, they have a traditional Maori greeting called hongi. Hongi involves the rubbing or touching of noses when two people meet. This act is referred to as the “ha” or the “breath of life” which is considered to have come from the gods.

GREETINGS IN GERMANY

• In germany the polite way to greet someone is to shake their hands.
• now you are prepared to greet the Germans. A successful greeting might be the start to an eternal friendship.
• Germans have a different need for distance and their comfort zone might differ from yours.
• It is wise to rather start out carefully and try how close you could get to them in the long run.
• The distance of a formal handshake is a good measure to begin with. 

GREETINGS IN EUROPE

• After verbal greetings, the handshake is by far the most common form of greeting among both males and females in Europe. This is especially true for the first meeting.
• In England, adults, across all levels of society, a handshake of greeting and on parting.

GREETINGS IN SAUDI ARABIA

• In Saudi Arabia, as in other Middle Eastern countries, Muslims will very often greet each other with a handshake and say “As-salamu alaykum”.
• Men may greet with kissing cheeks, and placing the left hand on the other’s right shoulder.

GREETINGS IN PHILIPPINES

• In the Philippines, it’s important that the young ones greet the elderly people by holding the elder’s right hand, leaning forward, and making sure that the knuckles will reach and press the greeter’s forehead while saying “Mano po.”

Greetings in China

•   Handshaking is a silent way of greeting which is more common in China, although it is a popularly used form of greeting in many countries worldwide.
• In China, a handshake or a simple and kind salutation is common. It is common on most social occasions as an expression of courtesy and greeting when people meet or say goodbye to each other. Besides, handshaking is also a way to express congratulations, thanks and motivation to others.

Conclusion

• Greeting is a custom that we use since ancient times. The first words are very important. They demonstrate the level of culture, human politeness, can tell a lot about the fact that he represents himself. Meeting people we wish them health, prosperity, a good day and success in work. This greeting can be coloured by emotion, or may be neutral. The value of a greeting is a demonstration of love and of belonging to a particular society. Any form of greeting bears the basic meaning: hello, means to wish "good health." Under the "health" in this case refers not only care about human health, but also his welfare, well-being and mood. The most enjoyable moment in this tradition is the "boomerang effect". Health, human instantly receives a reply wish "good health." As a rule, it elevates mood, evokes a smile and a burst of cheerfulness.
• Say hello when you’re lonely, Say hello when you’re alone, Say hello to friends that come to show you Life is going on without the slow. Say hello when it’s heavy raining, Say hello even when it’s hail, Say hello to the devil meeting, Say hello and welcome to the hell. Say hello when your mind is empty, Say hello to me and take my hand, Say hello and moving on please gently… There’s something you should try to understand! 
• By saying hello and trying to promote world peace, all global inhabitants will benefit!Thus, the hypothesis «it is important of greeting is true. Remember that greeting with foreigner is the most important sign of attention, by which we can express sympathy and friendly attitude. That is what will make your communication in English super-efficient.

World Hello Day

• November, 21 is the annual World Hello Day.  Anyone can participate in World Hello Day simply by greeting ten people.
•   The purpose of World Hello Day is simple – to encourage communication and dialogue between people of different backgrounds in order to achieve peace and understanding.
•   This unofficial holiday was created by Brian and Michael McCormack as a response to the Yom Kippur War between  Israel  and a coalition of Arab states led by  Egypt  and Syria in 1973.
• World Hello Day is celebrated by people in 180 countries.
