Kovernino is a part of nature

Choosing a tourist destination, people prefer to visit big and cosmopolitan cities. As a result small towns and settlements remain unnoticed. This book is created to introduce you one of such places.

On the banks of the Uzola river, a very picturesque and twisting one, not far away from Nizhny Novgorod. There is a small but incredibly beautiful village with an amazing name – Kovernino.

The history of our district goes back to the beginning of 18 century when Ribninsky parish of Yuryevetsky uyezd of Nizhegorodsky province appeared. Koverninian district was founded on the 10^th of June 1929.

Nowadays like most settlements of our immense country Kovernino has its own unique symbols.

First of all, there is a wonderful emblem that reflects all the spiritual qualities of our people: traditional cordiality, hospitality and giftedness. It also contains the elements of Khokhloma painting. Khokhloma is a unique folk art craft that is closely related to our small motherland.

Moreover we have our own lyrical patriotic hymn.

Looking at our emblem and listen to our hymn, you have no doubt that the nature of Kovernino is breathtaking and picturesque.

Kovernino is supposed to be an amazing region, situated on a great Uzola river. Visiting our village, you can admire of vast coniferous forests with unimaginable number of mushrooms and berries. Frosty and snowy winters, warm and rainy summers soaked by clean volzhsky air give you a lasting impression. Everyone will be impressed by our nature.

Walking around our beautiful village, you will enjoy not only wonderful scenery but also have the opportunity to see incomparable sights.

Our museum “Otchina” regularly holds different conferences and meetings. This cultural institution is one of the most visited places which performs the memory storage function.

We also have a modern convenient cinema where visitors can relax and spend their free time in a cozy atmosphere. The cinema “Mir” is also a place, where important regional events take place.

The only, but a very glorious park that is called “The park of Razumovsky” is always opened for those who want to have a good time with friends and family. There are a lot of paths in the park. Children prefer to walk there with their relatives and friends.

Each person chooses their own place to rest. Young people visit the park, and older people visit the church. There is a magnificent “The Church of the Ascension” in the centre of Kovernino, where hundreds of Christians go on weekdays and weekends.

Our village is rich not only in wonderful sights but in magnificent monuments as well.

One of the most famous monument - the Monument to Fallen Soldiers – is based in the centre of Kovernino and is supposed to be the place for large-scale Patriotic events.

An unusual monument has been erected in the village: to those who died in Chechnya and Afghanistan. The monument has been built recently. Some Kovernintsy were killed during this war: Sirotkin Vladimir Alexandrovich, Batishchev Sergey Mitrofanovich, Sevryugin Yevgeny Nikolaevich, Shulgin Vasily Nikolaevich.

People of our district are proud not only of our sights but of our compatriots too.

Among a huge number of famous and outstanding koverninians there are those whose names are forever inscribed in the history of our region – the participants of the Great Patriotic War. Fortunately, we can see them in our everyday life, walking down the Walk of Fame that is situated in the centre of the village. The Portraits of our countrymen with their names are the pride of our village. They are in our hearts forever.

Moreover, our village is famous for artists. Artists who do not just paint pictures, but convey their love for nature through painting plates, spoons, swans, and other things. The most famous are Gushchin Nikolai Alexandrovich and Timacheva Nina Grigorjevna.
