What celebrations around the world do you know?
I’d like to start our lesson with some statements about celebrations and festivals.
I’ll read the statements about some celebrations and you should decide and write true or false.
On Thanksgiving Day people eat only roasted turkey
The most common St. Patrick’s Day symbol is the rose
On Halloween the most popular activities are fortune telling, telling stories about witches and ghosts
Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated in all European countries
May Day is celebration when people celebrate the coming of summer with lots of different customs that are expressions of joy and hope after a long winter.
Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal.
On Valentine’s Day people wear costumes
Saint Patrick’s day is celebrated on the 17th of March
Guy Fawkes couldn't explode the Parliament
Halloween is celebrated on 31st of November
Let’s check if you were right and let me tell about some celebrations.

To learn new phrases on the topic ‘Celebrations”
To speak about celebrations
To ask for and give opinions about celebrations

Let’s learn some new phrases. Listen and repeat after me.
As you see people are doing different activities.
Let’s remember what tense we use when we want to describe the action in progress.
Of course we use Present continuous.
Let’s come back to these activities and describe what the people are doing at the moment
These celebrations take place during the year. What numbers do we use to speak about the dates: cardinal or ordinal numbers? Cardinal numbers tell “How many?” For example: one, two, three and so on. Ordinal numbers tell the order of things. When we tell the date we use ordinal numbers. As you see we add ‘th” to the cardinal number and don’t forget about some exceptions like first, second, third.
Now in pairs ask and answer the questions about these celebrations as in example
I’d like to pay your attention on the dialogue between Tess and Pete in ex. 3b. before we listen to this dialogue, let’s study new words and phrases. Repeat the phrases after me.
Listen to the dialogue and answer two questions: Are Pete and Tess in the same place? What are they talking about?
Please look at the dialogue and find three names of the games, two types of food and two types of costume. Speak about Halloween using these phrases.

You see that Tess and Pete are sharing their opinions about Halloween. It’s time to learn how to ask and express your own opinion. There are three ways to ask for an opinion. Let’s see. To respond you may say:
Применение знания: Now you can use these expressions in a dialogue when you share opinions. For example:
What do you think about May Day?
It’s quite good
How do you like the Maypole dancing?
It’s fantastic
