Lesson: My Family

Level: elementary

Number of students: 12-15

Time: 45 min.

Aims:

- to learn new vocabulary units and use them in oral and written speech;

- to participate in different kinds of activities;

- to develop logical thinking; skills of cooperative learning;

- to improve speaking, reading and writing skills.


Materials needed: hand-outs; the texts and tasks to them, the coloured cards with the sentences.


  1. INTRODUCTION


Warm-up.


- What day is it today? - What date is it today? - What season is it now? - Do you like autumn? Why? /Why not? - Is it raining today? - Is it snowing today? - Can you see any spring flowers in the street? etc.


II. MAIN PART OF THE LESSON

T. Today we are going to talk about our relatives. We love them. We try to be friends with them, share our common problems with each other and sped our free time together.

I. Checking up the students` homework.

Olga`s mother loves cooking very much.

Sasha`s brother hates being the center of attention.

Every weekend we go to the sea.

His sister does not like going to discos and parties.


We often listen to loud music.

My grandmother is a hard-working person.

On Sundays my friends like spending their free time together.

Sam likes reading fantastic books.

I do not like to meet new people because I am shy.

2. LISTENING


For many people their brothers and sisters are their best friends. Sam and Ron are brothers. Listen the information about them and try to understand where Sam is and where Ron is.


RON: Sam is very clever, like our father. He is a banker. He lives in a lovely

house in Scotland with his wife, Sophie, and their two children. My nephew

and niece are very smart and lively. Sam is rather quiet and serious. We are

very different but we are good friends.


SAM: Ron has got blue eyes and fair hair. And he`s tall like me. But he doesn`t

wear glasses. He is an Art teacher. He is very good with his hands. His

hobbies are painting and classical music. He plays the violin. He lives in a

village in Richmond and he has got a lot of animals - dogs, cats and a horse.

My children love him and his house. He is very friendly and talkative.

Read the letter that a girl sent to a newspaper.


I am fed up with my sister, Ann. My mum and dad treat her like an adult and they treat me like a child. She is only two years older than me. But she can do what she wants. She never helps at home and I have to help with cooking, washing up and cleaning. It`s not fair. She always takes my things without asking me. I can`t talk to her about my problems because she is not interested in my life. My sister and I both go to the same school. I usually get better results than she and she never does her homework. On Saturdays she goes to the discos and school parties and she never takes me with her. I am so unhappy. What can I do? Please help me.
