There are different wonderful events in Yaroslavl, however, the most interesting and brightest and the most famous is Maslenitsa celebration.

Yaroslavl is not only the capital of the Golden Ring of Russia ,but the capital of Maslenitsa festival.

This festival is very popular with people of all ages. Originally, Maslenitsa was a sad day to remember the dead relatives. However, people needed more fun and entertainment after the long and severe winter. They turned the sad holiday into the jolly Maslenitsa with pancakes - delicious and hot. There were lots of entertainment - horse sleigh riding, snowball fighting, visiting relatives and eating pancakes. Now Maslenitsa is associated with the end of winter and the start of spring

The main symbol of Maslenitsa is hot and delicious pancakes.

The circle has always been considered a holy shape in Russia. According to old beliefs, it protected people from evil. On Maslenitsa, the Russians Have always made pancakes.

Pancakes

Pancakes are a popular dish which is easy to cook. All you need is some flour, milk, eggs, salt and sugar. Stir the eggs with sugar and add the milk. Then start adding the flour (very slowly), stirring the mixture. Then add some salt. Now everything is ready for baking pancakes on the hot frying pan.

Maslenitsa in Yaroslavl has always been the biggest and most exciting in Russia. Yaroslavl Maslenitsa has always attracted many guests and visitors, and in 2005 it was officially recognized the Chief Maslenitsa in Russia.

Thousands of people gather in picturesque streets and squares of Yaroslavl to join traditional Russian kinds of fun. Both young and old go tobogganing, take active part in games, contests and round dances. One of the most exciting events of the festival is the Maslenitsa Folk Carnival, attracting lots of participants and viewers.

Maslenitsa is the main festival in Russia and the most exciting event in Yaroslavl.

Every year peple can go to Domansky park and walk among beautiful Maslenitsa dolls and choose the best one.

And on Sunday of Maslenitsa a huge straw figure, Winter, is burnt in the main square of Yaroslavl. All the sadness and troubles of last year burn in the fire to everybody’s excitement.

Place to visit in Yaroslavl on Maslenitsa

Yaroslavl is the official residence of Her Majesty the Chief Maslenitsa of Russia. In 2012 famous folk singer Nadezhda Babkina became Her Majesty. Today every lady from Yaroslavl region can try her fortune to become Her Majesty of Maslenitsa of All-Russia.

In the residence the guests can taste a variety of pancakes and try their hand in cooking this symbol of the sun .

One cannot understand Russia without watching that show. And, of course, only after having fun at Maslenitsa in Yaroslavl one can try and understand the enigmatic Russian soul!
