Chernobyl Disaster

I would like to tell you some words about the most tragic year in the life of my contemporaries namely about April 1986 when the catastrophe of the global scale occured in the Town of Pripyat at the Chernobyl Atomic Power Station.
All it began during splended Ukrainian night of the 26th of April 1986, when the 4th block of the Chernobyl Atomic Power Station exploded due to the negligence of servicemen. That terrible fire at the 4th block cost lives of many countrymen contaminating areas of the Ukraine, Byelorussia and Russia. Thousands and thousands of people inhabitants of these republics were not informed about the disaster.
Western countries such as Sweden, Poland, Norway and Germany registered the unexpected increase of a radiation level and demanded the immediate explanation from the Soviet leadership. And only four days later at the last April day the world was informed about the centurys catastroohe.
Many thousands of people were recruited to participate in the liquidation of the aftermaths of the global tragedy: Having no special appliances, living in tents with no even water to wash, knowing practically nothing of the influence of radioactivity on human health, young soldiers, officers, experts had been working at Pripyat weeks and months. It is not surprise that most of them got diseases and illnesses oa the radiooverdosing; some of them died. And only three years later, in 1989 the government began paying some miserable sums of money to the liquidators and inhabitants of the contaminated areas. According to the numerous decisions and the Ukases hundreds of villages were to be resettled in the pure zones. But frankly speaking not all good decisions are being carried out.
The land is poisoned but peasants plough and seed and reap. The rivers and lakes are poisoned too, but fisherman fish. Mushrooms and berries are not to be picked up, but people pick them up. And everybody knows about radiation danger. As to me, I think people got accustomed to live in danger. And that is the most thrilling thing.
But it should be necessary pointed out that with in the latest years after the Chernobyl disaster the world community tries to do its best to help the Chernobyl victims. Drugs and fruit, clothes, toys are being sent from Western countries to the people and their children. The USA, Italy, Germany, Syria, Cuba, Sweden, Argentine, Spain, Australia and many, many other countries had the honor of giving hospitality to young victims of Chernobyl. And we are thankful for their charity and mercy.
I belive that for many centuries the Cernobyl Catastrophe will be the warning to a man that atom has ever been poisonous and dangerous, that a man must handle it with the greatest care and responsibility in his inter cource with Nature. Let such disaster never occur again.
