Цели и задачи урока:

  • познакомить с достопримечательностями Лондона.

  • развивать социокультурную компетенцию через знакомство учащихся с культурой, достопримечательностями, географическим положением

  • развивать внимания, памяти, способности к сравнению и сопоставлению речевых единиц, к анализу, обобщению

  • развивать языковые способности и устойчивый интерес к изучению английского языка и географии

  • развивать интеллектуальные способности (память, мышление, воля, эмоции и т.д.);

  • воспитание потребности и способности к сотрудничеству и взаимопомощи

  • воспитание толерантности к стране изучаемого языка

  • воспитывать самостоятельность при выполнении заданий

Тип урока: изучение нового материала

Форма урока: интегрированный.

Оборудование: Раздаточный материал – кроссворд, карта Великобритании, карточки с лексическими единицами, раздаточный материал, текст «Лондон», презентация с достопримечательностями, смайлы для рефлексии.

Ход урока

  1. Организационный момент

Teacher: Good morning, children! I`m glad to see you.

Pupils: Good morning, teacher! We are glad to see you too.

Teacher: Sit down, please! What date is it today?

Pupil 1: Today is …

Teacher: Who is absent today?

Pupil 2: Nobody is absent today. All students are present. All students are at the lesson.

T: Let’s read and translate the text.

London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic, and commercial centre. It is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in Europe. Its population is about 8 million.

London is divided into several parts: the City, Westminster, the West End, and the East End.

The heart of London is the City, its financial and business centre. There are some famous ancient buildings within the City: the St. Paul's Cathedral, the greatest of English churches. It was built in the 17th century by Sir Christopher Wren. The Tower of London was founded by Julius Caesar and in 1066 rebuilt by William the Conqueror. Now it is a museum.

Westminster is the governmental part of London.All English kings and queens have been crowned in Westminster Abbey.Across the road from Westminster Abbey is Westminster Palace, the seat of the British Parliament. The Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament is famous for its big bell, known as "Big Ben". Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Queen.

The West End is the richest and most beautiful part of London. It is the symbol of wealth and luxury. The best hotels, shops, restaurants, clubs, and theatres are situated there.

The Trafalgar Square is the geographical centre of London. It was named in memory of Admiral Nelson's victory in the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The tall Nelson's Column stands in the middle of the square.

On the north side of the Trafalgar Square is the National Portrait Gallery. Not far away is the British Museum — the biggest museum in London. It contains a priceless collection of ancient manuscripts, coins, sculptures, etc, and is also famous for its library.

There are a lot of factories, workshops, and docks in the East End.

T: It is necessary for us to find the places that we want to visit. Now you’ll see the sights of London. But before we’ll try to guess. What is it?

  1. It is the famous clock. It is real bell. You can hear its deep tone on the BBC. People say that it is a face of London.

  1. *It’s the home of the British royal family in London. Outside the palace we can watch a colorful ceremony of the Changing of the Guard.

- I`m going to the USA. I will travel by car there.

- Really? What cities will you visit?

- Boston, Hollywood.

- Disney Land and The Mississippi river.
