В ноябре- декабре нашу школу посещала студентка по обмену Полоцкого государственного универстите из г. Гейдельберг, Лара Эбель. Наши учащиеся предложили устроить гостье небольшой экзамен на знание некоторых фактов о нашей стране. Она успешно выдержала это испытание и поделилась дополнительной информацией о своей стране.

Good afternoon, dear classmates and Lara!

Today we will have a tour around our beautiful country. We know, that you, Lara, have spent almost 4 months in Belarus and maybe you have learnt a lot about our republic. I think, we should start our little examination and check your knowledge and maybe give you more information.

We will add information about Germany, that we found on the Internet. And we will be very thankful if you give us some more details about your country.

Question 1. .What is the population of Belarus?

A. about 10 mln people

B. about 7 mln people

C. about 12 mln people

The correct answer is about 10 mln people. The most populated city is of course our capital. About 2 mln people live in Minsk. And the population of Novopolotsk is about 107 thousand people. Can you tell us how many people live in your city?

How many regions are there in Belarus?

There are 6 regions in our country. And 6 biggest cities: Minsk, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Gomel, Brest, Grodno.

In Germany there are 11 regions. Can you tell us and show us the biggest cities in Germany?

Of course the biggest cities are very important for our country, but there are a lot of smaller towns and villages that are really wonderful and interesting to visit. For example, Braslav and its lakes, Dudutki and its ethnographical open-air museum, Polotsk and its cultural heritage, Mir and Nesvizh and their castles, Brest and its fortress, Polessye and its ancient nature, Belovezhskaya Pushcha and its residents, Gervyaty and its church, Novogrudok and the ruins of its caslte, Khatyn  and its memorial complex, villiga Buinichi Mogilyov region and its Buinitski field, Elnya and its swamps and cranes, the open-air museum Stalin’s line  and its war planes, cars and tanks.

The Dnieper is 2201 km long and it’s the longest river in our republic. And what’s the longest river in Germany?

The red stripe is the symbol of our history, the ornament on the white stripe are symbols of our culture, spiritual wealth and unity. And the green colour is the symbol of hope, spring and our green fields and forests. Do you know anything about colours on German flag?

Question 6.  Let’s speak about our natural symbols. What bird is the symbol of our country?

Of course, it’s a stork. And it’s also a symbol of good luck.

Question 7. What animal is a symbol of our forests and national parks?

The symbol of Belovezhskaya Pushcha and the strongest animal in Belarus is a European bison. There are about 2000 bison in Belarus. Lara, have you ever seen a bison?

Belarus is often called the blue-eyed country. It’s because of lakes and rivers and lots of cornflowers on our fields.

This city is famous for its artists Kazimir Malevich, Mark Shagal, Ilya Repin and its festival Slavyanski Bazar. Many talented singers from Slavic countries start their career on this festival and become famous. We are speaking about Vitebsk. We know that you visited Vitebsk last week. Did you like it?
