MUSIC THERAPY
Ah! That delightful sound of music! It’s lovely, isn’t it? If you haven’t noticed, music holds a great power over our minds. There’s a famous quote that says ‘Where words fail, music speaks’ which is true for some people. Take a moment to think about it. You listen to music when you’re sad, when you’re happy or even if you want to fill the silence in your mind. In a way, listening to music is almost, I guess some would say therapeutic. So if that’s the case, what role does music really play in healthcare? The answer to that is simple. It lies within music therapy.
SO WHAT IS MUSIC THERAPY?
Music therapy is the clinical use of music to accomplish individualized goals such as reducing stress, improving mood and self-expression. Thanks to music you can get certain benefits. For example:
· To lower blood pressure.
· To improve your memory.
· To observe your thoughts and emotions.
· To increase motivation.
· To manage pain.
· To increase joy.
What happens during music therapy?
During music therapy you will do one or more of the following:
Create music. You might compose music or write lyrics
Sing music. Use your voice to share a piece of music.
Listen to music. Enjoy the sound and lyrics.
Move to music. It can be as simple as tapping your toes together or as complicated as a dance.
Discuss lyrics. Read or listen to the lyrics of a song and talk about their meaning.
Play an instrument.
By the way, different musical instruments have a different therapeutic effect:
* piano - calms the nervous system;
* violin and flute – relax you;
* clarinet - improves blood circulation;
* drums - encourage, give power.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM MUSIC THERAPY?
Music therapy can benefit many individuals. For example:
People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Music therapy may help with memory and stimulate your mind because of predictability, familiarity and feelings of security.
Victims of trauma and crisis. If you’ve experienced trauma and crisis, you might have anxiety, stress and pain. Music therapy can help you with decreasing those three experiences.
Those who are physically ill. The list includes, but is not limited to people with chronic pain, diabetes, cardiac conditions, cancer, headaches, recent surgery and people in rehab.
Individuals with mental health disorders. If you’re dealing with a mental health disorder, music therapy can help you with communication and expression, help you explore your thoughts and feelings, improve your mood and concentration and develop coping skills.
People with chronic pain. Music therapy can help decrease your pain, anxiety, fatigue and depression.
The effectiveness of therapy can be confirmed by the case of the famous French actor Gerard Depardieu. In his youth he suffered from stuttering. This illness could put an end to the beginning of his career. But the doctor advised him to devote at least two hours a day to listening to Mozart. Two months later, Gerard completely got rid of his stuttering. So music therapy allowed numerous fans to enjoy the talent of an outstanding actor.
As we can see, unlike most other methods of healing, music therapy allows self-medication. So the next time you feel exhausted, depressed or hopeless try listening to some music to help you relax a bit. Anyway that’s all for now. Thanks for your attention.

Про Моцарта
The healing effect of Mozart's music is caused by the fact that there are a lot of high-frequency sounds in it. Firstly, these sounds strengthen the muscles of the middle ear. Secondly, sounds with a frequency of 3000 to 8000 Hz and above cause the greatest resonance in the cerebral cortex. This improves a person's memory and stimulates thinking.
