New Zealand is a very interesting country. She is beautiful and its nature is inspiring.

Two main islands

It is situated to the south-east of Australia in the Pacific Ocean. It consists of two main islands (North Island and South Island) and some smaller ones.

Population

Nearly 3.5 million people live in the country.

The capital

The capital of New Zealand Island is Wellington. It is a financial centre too. The city was founded in 1840 and has been the capital since 1865.

If you want to visit this wonderful country, you need to know a few facts:

• The official language is English.
• The climate of New Zealand is moist.
• There are some big cities as Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Nelson. Auckland and Wellington are the main ports of the country.
• On Thursday, people in bars is not less than on Saturday.
• Winter is from June to August. Summer - December to February.
• New Zealand Favorite food: «fish & chips» - potato chips and fish in batter, lamb with kumara chips.
• A particular delicacy is considered to be a small fish called Whitebait.
