A student is sitting at the desk and doing his English homework.
Suddenly someone opens the door and a young man shows up. He is wearing a woolen jacket and holding 2 maps in his left hand.
Student: Ты кто?
Stranger: I am the one who knows the answer to your question.
Student: Бла бла бла. Ничего я не понимаю на вашем тарабарском.
The stranger reaches and holds his right hand up to the student`s lips.
Student: Take this pill.
Student: Чего? Не буду я!
Stranger: Take this! It`s a kind of magic! (“A kind of magic” by Queen in the background)
Student: Мэджик? Магия что ли? Класс! Тогда давай!
The student takes a pill. Then a magic sound is heard.
Stranger: How are you feeling now?
Student: Oh, nice. Just a little bit dizzy. Wait a minute…What?!? Am I speaking English?!?
Stranger: Yes, you are! Are you happy about this?
The student grabs the stranger by the neck.
Student: What have you done to me!? I don`t remember a word in Russian! Whatever you did, I want you to undo it right now!
The stranger frees himself.
Stranger: I won`t undo it unless you and your friends (pointing at the audience) grasp the idea.
Student: What idea?
Stranger: I have 2 maps for you. On each of them there are several points which you must find and visit. The first point is already marked. Which one comes next you have to guess by solving one of my puzzles when you reach each point. As soon as you have solved all the puzzles, you`ll come back here and do my last task. Only then I`ll undo my magic.
Student: OK (turning to the audience). Guys, will you help me?
Stranger: Sit down over here (waving to the student). Ok, let`s start! Guys, check your chairs. They have got a mark. Now look at your marks (the marks are shown on the screen). Into which 2 groups can they be divided? (The symbols of the UK/ the USA).
Good. Now you`re divided into 2 teams. Give a name to your team. Put it down in a special form on the map (handing over the maps to the students). As soon as I say “Ready? Steady? Go!”, the game will get started. Reach the first point on your map! Got it? OK! Ready? Steady? Go!

Team 1 (starts with REACER)
REACER (The room is decorated as an office)
A guide at the point (business look: white blouse, skirt, jacket, high heels, glasses, slick hair)
Good morning/afternoon! Welcome to my office. My name is Lucy and I`m a successful business woman. In this room you can find 7 pictures with numbers. Each picture shows one of the fields that many young people choose as their future career- law, oil extraction and refining, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, banking, ICT or engineering (the fields are written on the board). Let`s find them! On the desk next to you you`ll find 7 pieces of text related to this or that field (career station.doc). Put the pieces in the same order as the pictures are. Put down the highlighted letters and words in this form (REACERworksheet.doc) and make the key phrase.
Perfect! Now you know where to go next. Good luck!
SOUTRIM (The room is decorated as an airport)
A guide at the point (dressed like a tourist: T-shirt, shorts, sandals, white socks, backpack)
Hi, guys! Welcome to the airport! My name is Stephen and I`m a regular traveler. I`ve been to so many countries since I can speak English fluently. Today I`m going to fly to Alaska but I have a real problem! Yesterday I was very busy and asked my younger sister to pack my backpack. Truly speaking, I`m not really sure if she did it correctly (airline announcement in the background). I need a student whose task will be to check the things in my backpack and choose the ones which I`ll definitely need in my trip. Does it seem easy? You`ll be doing it with your eyes blind-folded! If you do it right, I`ll give you a clue to the next stop on your map. Good luck!
Things in the backpack: a toothbrush, the passport, a baseball cap, a ticket, a map, sandals, ffff a scarf, gloves, a fan, suntan lotion
The things he DOESN`T need: a baseball cap, sandals, a fan, suntan lotion
In the end, students name the things their representative has chosen. They are given pieces of paper with the words they have mentioned. (Example:“We`ve chosen “gloves””. The piece “gloves” is given). On the other side of the pieces with correct words clue words are written). The students make a key phrase.
Key phrase: English/makes/travelling/easy./Visit/Vomies.
VOMIES (The room is decorated as a cinema room)
A guide at the point (sitting in a dark room, watching a movie on the screen, holding a basket of popcorn in his hands)
Oh, sorry! Come in! Hi! My name is Jerry and I`m a movie maniac! I am the one who can watch a new movie as soon as it comes out because my English is good. As I know, you`re solving some puzzles to help a poor student with a spell on him. Solve mine and I`ll give you a clue you need to find the next point on the map. Deal? OK, now look at the screen. I`m going to show you some popular quotes from well-known British and American movies. These quotes are a little bit changed but can be easily recognized. Your task is to name a movie and try to recall the original quote. For each right guess you`ll be given a letter. At the end of the game you`ll be able to make a key word. Let`s start!
Arrivederci, sweetheart! (pronounced as the Terminator does) (Vomies.ppt on the screen). Does it sound similar? That`s right! Let`s move on!
Key phrase: FRESHNIDIP
FRESHNIDIP
A guide at the point (looking at the screen of the computer and saying “Good bye!”)
Oh, sorry! Come in! My name is Andy. I have so many friends around the world. I suppose any language to be the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going. English is the best map ever in this regard (smiling). I have a task for you. I have some letters from my pen friends living in different countries. They enjoy greeting me in their native languages. On the desk next to you you`ll find 18 envelopes with my friends` addresses. Put the letters into correct envelopes and I`ll give you some Google instructions that will help you to find something at the last station (languages.doc).

BOTH TEAMS GO BACK TO START
Student: Oh, finally! Come in!
Stranger: Glad to see you here again! You seem to have solved all the puzzles and found the answer to this dummy`s (pointing at the student) question.
Student: What question?
Stranger: Did you forget it? “English is so useless! Why do Russians need to learn English?”
Student: Oh, yeah… I was asking myself…
Stranger: Now I want you to grasp the idea why we are all here today. Here are 2 sheets of paper for both teams. Unscramble the names of the points you`ve visited and write why we should learn English under each of them. I hope the guides` speech and the puzzles you`ve solved can help you as well.
Good! Let`s have a look at your lists of reasons.
(turning to the student) What do you think of learning English now?
Student: I was such a fool! Now I know how important English is! The limits of my language are the limits of my world! I DO need English to push the boundaries and get to the top!
Stranger: I hope you really got it. And now… (a magic sound is heard)
Student: Что теперь? О, я снова я! Ура! Я снова говорю на русском!
Stranger: Yes! Remember what you promised me! You said you would learn English properly!
Student: Yes, I`ll do! I`ll definitely do! And you? (winking at the audience)
