  1. Warm up.

1.To introduce the topic.

Lead a class discussion about different festivals and celebrations around the world. Ask students they know any festivals


During the discussion elicit some of the following nouns, which students will need to know to complete activity (parade / feast / firework / occasion / origin / tradition / temple / ritual) Write down these words on the board as they are mentioned.




  1. Middle of the lesson.


2.To read for specific information:

Read the questions aloud one at a time and ask Ss ro read texts again and answer them. Check Ss’ answers.

Shakespeare’s birthday group:

Nomadic Civilisation group:

Celebrating- eat,rate,leg,tail,rice,train,late,in and etc.






3. To complete a table and present two festivals

  1. Listening

Ask students to copy the table into their notebooks. Give Ss time to read the texts again and then complete the table. Ask various Ss to use the table to present the festivals to the class.


Suggested answer key


Shakespeare’s Birthday is on 23rd April. It takes place in Stratford-Upon-Avon. There is parade which a teenager leads and carries ‘the quill’. There also people in traditional customes , marching bands and schoolchildren. The mayor puts flowers on Shakespeare’s grave. Then there are concerts,competitions and dancing.


The Festival of Nomadic Civilisation takes place in July in Astana.

There is a mini tent village of yurts with food and traditional creafts as well as music and dance performances.



4. To compare different two festivals


Teacher students gave two paper, and Ss must imagined festivals and describe it

5. To write a short text about a cultural festival


Explain the task Ss to work in small groups and collect information about cultural festival in their country and make notes. Then ask Ss to use their country and make notes. Then ask Ss to use their notes to write a short text. Ask various Ss read their text to the class. Alternatively,assign the task as HW and check Ss’ answers in the next lesson.


Suggested answer key


The Nauryz Festival takes place on 22nd March in towns and cities across the country. There are polo matches, folk dancing and dancing and music performances. It is a celebration of the new year and people cook and eat lamb.



Explain what is expected from students, give them clear and comprehensible rubrics. Walk around the class and listen to their conversations, take notes, provide feedback to students individually or general feedback to the entire class.

You can include the following criteria in your rubrics: task achievement, fluency pronunciation (intonation, stress). You can always adapt rubrics if necessary.
