Момент
Good afternoon, boys and girls!
I am glad to see you.
What date is it today?
What day is it today?
What is the weather like today?
Let’s begin our lesson!
Today you will learn how to communicate with people if you travel abroad. You will listen to different people and learn how to ask for information. Then you will play out conversation on the phone.
Travelling abroad is not just visiting new places, but also meeting people, learning about their traditions and customs.
What do you think you should know before going to Britain?
What do you think “to communicate” means?
When you talk to people in your country, how do you show that you understand what people tell you?
And how do you show that you do not understand them?
What telephone can we use to make an international call Britain?
What kinds of public telephones are there in Britain?
What combination of coins can you use to make a call?
Look at the pictures on page 60, please. Listen the three dialogues and say what problems these travellers have.
-Excuse me. Is there a café near here?
Um… yes, there’s one on the corner opposite the museum.
I’m sorry. I did not catch that. Would you say it again, please?
Okay. Go along the street up to the museum. You’ll see café on the corner opposite the museum.
P. The traveler can’t hear clearly.
–Uh, Excuse me.
Yes.
What number do I dial for Russia?
…0107, and then the number.
I’m sorry, can you say that again slowly, please?
Oh, yes, 0-1-0-7. And then dial the number.
P. The traveler doesn’t understand fast speech.
- Could I have a ticket to Richmond, please?
Single?
Sorry. What does “single” mean?
Well, a “single” is one- way of ticket. If you are coming back today, you can buy a return ticket.
Oh, I see. Single, please.
The traveler doesn’t know the meaning of the word.
T How do the teenagers show that they do not understand? What questions do they ask?
- I’m sorry. I didn’t catch. Would say it again, please?
- I’m sorry, can you say it again slowly, please?
- Sorry. What does “single” mean?
Card 1
A foreigner asks a passerby how to get to the post office. The foreigner doesn’t understand the fast speech.
Card 2
A foreigner asks a policeman how to get to the bus station. The foreigner can’t hear clearly.
Card 3
A foreigner wants to get the information when the train from London arrives. The foreigner can’t hear clearly.
Card 4
A foreigner asks a shop-assistant how much the travel leaflet costs. The foreigner doesn’t understand the fast speech.
- Look at the cartoons on page 63, please. What is funny about them?
Во втором диалоге учителю следует объяснить учащимся, что приветственное выражение “ How do you do?”
Первый собеседник, говоря “ You are driving on the right side” имеет в виду правую сторону дороги, что в Британии является нарушением правил.
I think we’ll stop here. Thank you very much. I see that you are very creative. Most of you have done that well. The lesson is coming to the end now. Your homework is ex.2,3, c.70-71.
