EQ: “Why do we need Nature?” = “How can we successfully participate in saving Nature?”

Grade: 8th / A2 level

Period (time): 7 weeks

Goals:

  • to develop group work skills;

  • to engage students through games and project work;

  • to broaden students’ mind about the nature;

Objectives:

  • Educational: SWAB to find out and apply the main information about ecological problems using at least 10 sources;

  • Developmental:

    • Writing skills: students will be able to write at least 10 sentences about the topic of the environmental problems;

    • Speaking skills: SWAB to say at least 10 sentences about the topic of ecological problems by using present simple, future simple and past simple;

    • Reading skills: SWAB to read at least 100 – 120 words per minute;

    • Listening skills: SWAB to perceive the hearing information about the ecological problems in Kazakhstan and in the whole world, comprehend and reproduce it;

  • Bringing-up: SWAB to create a poster/video or other creative way of presenting the information about the topic of ecological problems and propose the solutions; SWAB to treat nature more careful;

Subtopics:

  • Why is nature in ganger?

  • What are the main ecological issues?

  • What types of EP do we have in Kostanay?

  • How can we improve the situation with water pollution?

  • How can we solve the problems that concern the air pollution?

  • What kind of measures can be taken to clean the city of garbage?

Driving questions:

  • Is it interesting for students?

  • How can students find out the information about the topic?

  • In what way can students be divided into groups?

  • (the rest questions will appear in process of implementation of the project);

Hypothesis: If each person is careful about nature it will be saved?

If people will count the quantity of water they spend it will help us to solve the problem with lack of water?

If people will eat lots of watermelons it will impose the situation with lack of water?
