To use comparative adjectives for describing someone’s appearance

Students use form of an adjective to describe and compare appearance of different people

Assumptions

Students can use present and past simple of verbs “to be” and “to have” to describe and compare different people

Anticipated problem

Students may struggle to correctly form the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives, especially when it comes to understanding which adjectives follow regular patterns and which are irregular (e.g., "good" vs. "better" vs. "best").

Possible solution

Start the lesson with a clear explanation of the rules for forming comparatives and superlatives, including distinctions between one-syllable, two-syllable regular adjectives, and irregular adjectives. Using examples and visual aids can enhance understanding

Students look at a list of appearance characteristics and discusses what they personally think is beautiful.

Teacher explains a new grammar rule about positive and comparative degree of adjectives. Then teacher makes a table, where they write all the rules and exceptions.


Students put their knowledge into practice by completing sentences in which beauty standards in different cultures are compared. Then they compare their answers in small groups.

Students in pairs pick a card with two different people on it. One student picks one person, another student picks the second one. They orally make a small dialog to compare each other.

Students read small texts with the decryptions of different people and answers reading comprehension questions. Then all students discuss their answers with teacher.

Then using se comparative adjectives to compare them in terms of: Height, Weight, Strength
