For the peasant,

the Cover day is one of the most important autumn associated in the folk tradition with the completion of agricultural work and the beginning of winter

What is the weather on the Cover - such is the winter

The border position of the feast of the Intercession of the virgin between autumn and winter marked it as the day on which the weather was determined for the coming winter, as for the peasants it was always important whether the approaching winter would be severe.

Wedding Time

But not only with the snow cover was connected in the national consciousness of the day of the Intercession of the virgin. Cover (boards) of the blessed virgin Mary was associated with a blanket, a veil, a headscarf, which covered the bride during the wedding ceremony. The day of the Intercession of the virgin was considered a "patron of weddings" and a maiden holiday

The eve of the day

girls were wondering. They baked a small rye bread and crushed a bunch of flax ( лен ) .

Going to bed before the day, the girls said a prayer addressed to the mother of God: "you, the mother of God, cover me, the girl, with your veil-to go to the other side!

and in the morning they got up early and went to the Church-to put a candle in front of the icon of the Intercession of the virgin

There was a belief: who will put a candle earlier, that will marry earlier.

Traditions of the day

The girls tried to have a lot of fun on this day, as it was believed that"if tyou have a lot of fun on the Cover, cute boyfriend will be found." On this day they did not work. Dressed in elegant clothes, they danced and played games
