What is hot with the young generation?
SUBCULTURE
- A subculture is a group of people within a complex culture who have interests that are different from those of the mainstream culture.
- I think that a subculture is a group with a distinct style and identity. Different subcultures have their own beliefs, value systems, fashion, and favorite music.
- Subculture is formed on the base of music, art or cinematographic adoration.
- Teenagers unite in groups, they create their own rules, policy and, of course, they have the main idea that serves as base for the whole movement.
- Rastafarians is a Black youth subculture and religious movement that arose in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica, in the 1950s.
- Males grow hair in long dreadlocks and wear woolen caps; use marijuana.
- Rastafarians believe that every man is equal and each one should show him due respect, since each neighbor is our brother.
- Reggae music is one of the most popular among young people. Bob Marley is the most representative artist who introduced the sound of Reggae music to the western world.
Hackers
They are the 'wizards' of the computer community; people with a deep understanding of how their computers work, and can do things with them that seem 'magical'. They do not protest against their parents.
Punks
A young person who dresses in a shocking way to express his other identity . He or she has brightly colored hair and wears metal chains. The person is thought to rebel against the society. The music is aggressive. They reject everything.
Goths
The members of this subculture wear the blackest black, with a lot of silver jewelry and have very black hair and look as thin and pale as possible. The members gather together to read Bram Stoker and talk about being vampires, and about the end of the world.
- The hippie subculture was originally a youth movement that arose in the United States during the mid – 1960s and spread to other countries around the world .
- They wear natural textiles, tie-dyed and paisley prints were also trendy. A lot of people created their own things with accessories and individual objects were regularly adorned with fringes and beads.
- Their slogans are: « Make Love, Not War » , « Give Peace A Chance » ,
« All You Need Is Love » .
- Their favorite music is rock-and-roll.
Ravers
These are the folks who use computer-made, synthesized music, and drugs to create massive all-night dance parties in empty warehouses( склад ). They like to be in a collective. They want to try out all sort of options (to test all things that they can choose) and are thought to be violent (showing strong physical force).
Punks – wear jeans, red laces, studded jackets, army pants, safety pins.
Mods - use their income to buy stylish clothes. Prefer scooters for transportation.
Hippies were well known for being young, radical and rebellious. Use drugs (marijuana). Slogan – “All you need is love”.
Bikers - wear black leather jackets and jeans and boots; had greased hair and ride motorcycles and listen to rock'n'roll.
Emo – wear a bright colored skinny jeans and body hugging T-shirts with pictures of emo bands on them.
Rastafarians - Black youth subculture, have long dreadlocks and wear woolen caps. Use drugs.
Ravers – go to underground dance parties, prefer “techno” music.
Goths – have black hair and dark make-up. Prefer to listen to the Gothic rock.
Skinheads – have shaved heads and heavy boots. Very aggressive. Their symbols are crosses or swastika.
