The first world war of 1914-1918 has became one of the bloodiest and largest conflicts in human history. It lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. 38 states was involved in this conflict.

Countries with a total population of more than 1 000 000 people, that accounting for more than 60% of the world's population was involved in the war. More than 70 000 000 people fought in this war. About 10 000 000 people were killed and 20 000 000 people were injured and wounded. This war changed the world’s political map

A large number of monuments and memorial tablets to the heroes of the World War I had been build in all countries. And also many streets are named in honor of the heroes of this war. In this presentation I will talk about the monuments of the World War I in the South of Russia.

The monument to "Soldiers-heroes of the First World War"

The first in the South of Russia monument to “Soldiers-heroes of the First World War” was opened in Novocherkassk. It was installed near the Don Emperor Alexander III Cossack Cadet Corps on Baklanovsky Avenue. The basis of the sculptural composition is an ordinary soldier of the Russian Empire’s Army - a bronze figure of the Cossack of the First World War time.

Two soldiers - a Cossack and a Highlander in national costumes and fully armed stand shoulder to shoulder on pedestal. There is inscription on the pedestal: «Glorious sons of the Fatherland - the Cossacks and the Highlanders — the heroes of the First world war 28.07.1914-11.11.1918. This sculptural composition has appeared on Alexander Boulevard in Krasnodar.

And she was awarded officer 4-th degree order of the St. George. Ivanova Rimma Mikhailovna (June 15, 1894 – September 9, 1915) was the only woman in Russia who was awarded the military order of St. George of the 4th degree. The award was given to her posthumously.

The 1th of August - the Day of memory of Russian soldiers who died in the First world war of 1914-1918 - was included in the list of memorable dates of Russia by the Federal law, which was adopted in December 2012.
