Ways of Talking about the Future

 Be going to  is used for actions intended to be performed in the near future (plans)  ex. She is going to visit her parents tomorrow. evidence that something will happen in the near future  ex. Look at the dark clouds in the sky! It is going to rain! things we are sure about or have already decided to do in the near future  ex. He is going to be promoted.

Future Simple will+V is used for  decisions taken at the moment of speaking  ex . I’ll turn on the light. It is getting dark. hopes, fears. threats, offers, promises, warnings, predictions with: expect, hope, believe, I’m sure, I’m afraid, etc.  ex. I’m afraid I’ll be late. actions or predictions which may (not) happen in the future.  ex. She’ll probably come to the party.  actions which we cannot control and will inevitably happen.  ex. She will be twenty next year. things we are not sure about  ex. She will probably be promoted.

Will you be going to the supermarket? Can you buy me some milk?
