

Past Simple

• Действие произошло в указанное время в прошлом, либо из ситуации понятно, что относится к прошлому.
• They spent their holidays in Switzerland last winter. ( When did they go to Switzerland? Last winter. ) They had a great time.

Past Simple

• Перечисление действий в прошлом.

• First , he read the message. Then , he called the boss.

Past Simple

• Прошлые привычки и состояния. Часто используем оборот used to (со всеми глаголами) или модальный глагол would (кроме статичных глаголов).
• People travelled/used to travel by carriage in those days.

Past Simple

• Рассказываем о людях, которых нет в живых.
• Marilyn Monroe starred in a number of great films.

• I was having lunch at 12:30 am yesterday .

• Действие происходило, длилось в определенный, указанный момент в прошлом.
• At three o’clock they were having lunch at a café.

Past Continuous

• Действие длилось в прошлом (Past Continuous – более длинное действие) и его прервало другое действие (Past Simple – короткое действие, обозначающее момент в прошлом).
• He was walking when he slipped on a banana skin.

Past Continuous

• Два или более одновременных действия в прошлом.
• She was steering the boat while he was playing the guitar.

• Для описания событий предшествующих основным событиям с целью создания атмосферы повествования.
• They were riding through the forest. The sun was shining and the birds were singing . Suddenly…
