What is the difference between  UK, Britain, Great Britain (GB) and the British Isles?

Here you can see a map of the world. You can see Great Britain on the map. Here it is

Some people name the country as the UK, the other say it’s Britain,

some others name it Great Britain

(GB).

May be it is the British Isles?

What is the difference?

• the British Isles - Британские
• острова
• islands around – окружающие
• острова
• the biggest – наибольшие
• two main ones- два самых
• главных

The British Isles. Here they are. There are many other islands around. Still the British Isles are the biggest of them. The British Isles are the two main ones.

The United Kingdom or the UK is situated on the British Isles.

You can see the United Kingdom on this map.

The United Kingdom is made of four countries.

They are:

England,

Scotland,

Wales,

Northern Ireland.

This is Northern Ireland. Imagine –

No England, No Scotland, No Wales.

If we take away Northern Ireland we can see

Great Britain or GB.

There are only England,

Scotland,

Wales.

If we take away England, Northern Ireland,

Wales we can see

Scotland.

If we take away Scotland, Wales,

Northern Ireland

we can see

England.

If we take away England,

Scotland, Northern Ireland

we can see

Wales.

So we know that the United Kingdom is made of four countries.

Let’s repeat their names once again:

Scotland,

England,

Wales,

Northern Ireland.

Here is the United Kingdom (the UK) again.

Where is England there?

Where is Scotland there?

Where is Wales there?

Where is Northern Ireland there?

Write the name of the country and the correct number.
