Elena Borisovna Elesina

Elena Borisovna Elesina was born on April 5, 1970 in Chelyabinsk. She studied at school 17 of the city of Chelyabinsk. She studied at the Chelyabinsk teacher college. The first sporting success came to Elena in 1988, when at the age of 18 she won the high jump competition at the World Junior Championship. In 1990, she won the Goodwill Games, setting a personal record of 2 meters 2 centimeters, which remained her best result in her career. In the 1990s, Elesina several times participated in the world and European championships, won a number of silver and bronze medals there.

The main sporting success came to the athlete at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, where Elesina quite unexpectedly became the Olympic champion with a score of 2.01. Before the Olympics, interrupted her career in connection with the birth of her son. A year later, she returned to big-time sports and won gold in Sydney, but the recurrence of old injuries did not allow Elena to reach the previous sports level, the only success of the following years was the silver of the winter world championship of 2003 in Birmingham. In 2005, after the birth of her second son, Elesina announced her retirement.
