Lomonosov was the son of a poor fisherman.   He wanted to be educated as the tsar Peter I the Great tried to transform Russia into a modern nation.

 M. V. Lomonosov  became the first Russian Academician at the age of 19.  He founded Moscow University in 1755. Moscow State University was renamed ‘’M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University’’ in his honor in 1940.
