2.2.The object of the project: To learn about symbols and metaphors in a novel

2.2.The object of the project: To learn about symbols and metaphors in a novel "The Kite runner" The first is: to comprehend what is a symbol and metaphor. The second is : to find symbols and metaphors through the novel. The third is: to consider and connect the meaning of symbols and metaphors with the plot of the novel.

Research hypothesis: The use of autoroy ang natural phenomena as symbols is associated with Afgan culture and traditions.

What is symbol and metaphor? The word

What is symbol and metaphor?

The word "symbol" came from the ancient greek language.

It means "sign of recognition".

Over time, the meaning of the word has expanded, and now a symbol is not just a sign, but also an image that carries a deep meaning.

Symbol – is an object or phenomenon that means not only what we see. It is like a secret sign that helps us understand something deeper.

Example: Heart is symbol of love.

Pigeons are symbol of peace.

The ancient greek word "metaphor" literally means "transfer".

This reflects the essence of metaphor: we transfer the properties of one object or phenomenon to another, creating a vivid image

Metaphor – is a comparison where one word or expression is replaced by another to show that they have something in common.

Example: «The heart of Amir was like a stone»

We can confirm once again that the symbols and metaphors in the novel reflect the inner world of a person, gives deep meaning to the actions and plot, and these two semantic units reflect as a mirror the way of life, life, traditions and culture of Afghanistan. In Afghan culture, a kite is not just a toy, but a symbol of freedom and aspiration to heaven. Kite flying is a traditional sport where both male children from 6-14 years old can take part.

Bozkashi is a symbol of courage, strength and honor in Afghan culture. Imagine a game where riders on horseback compete to capture and hold the carcass of a goat. This is a very dangerous and spectacular game that requires incredible strength, dexterity and courage. Why is buzkashi so important as a symbol in Khaled Hosseini's novel? This is a test of masculinity: Participating in bozkashi means showing that you are strong, brave and ready for any challenges. It is a symbol of honor: Victory in buzkashi brings great honor to the player and his tribe.

3. Research results and conclusion: As a result of the study of these elements – metaphor and symbolism, I came to the conclusion that the hypothesis that the author's use of natural phenomena, household items as symbols is associated with Afghan culture and traditions is like a window into culture. Studying the symbolism in the novel allowed me to better understand Afghan traditions, values and way of life. Kite, mountains, wind, pomegranate and tea – all these symbols carry a deep cultural meaning.
