General information

  The Republic of Belarus is situated in the centre of Europe. The area of Belarus is more than 200 000 square kilometers. The population of our country is about 10 million people. The capital is Minsk.  Belarus borders on Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine. Belarus is made up of six regions called oblast with the major cities of Brest, Grodna, Gomel, Magilew and Vitebsk.  The name “Belarus” corresponds with the term “White Rus”.  The Republic of Belarus has become a home country for people of different nations. However, there are two main languages: Russian and Belarusian.

Belarus

 National symbols Belarus has its national symbols: national emblem, national anthem and national flag. There are two stripes (red and green) and a beautiful ornament on our flag. A green stripe on our flag is a symbol of our green forests.  Belarus is famous for its white storks. People say, they are a symbol of good luck. The symbol of Belavezhskaya Pushcha is the bison, a very strong animal. And the symbol of Belarusian fields is the cornflower – a small blue flower.
