A Happy New Year for you

A Happy New Year for every one

That’s what I wish – I do!

It is done for the simple reason that nowadays in Britain the traditional celebration of New Year is only preserved in Scotland. In Scotland people bring a piece of coal for good luck in the New Year.

At New Year people have parties. Celebrating the beginning of the New Year, people drink champagne and join hands and sing an old Scottish song “Auld Lang Syne”.

Some people stay up all night. Americans blow horns and whistles at midnight to announce the beginning of a new year. Some people shake hands, kiss, hug, sing and shout “Happy New Year!”

Americans celebrate New Year’s Day on of the first day of January, but the celebration actually begins on December 31, New Year’s Eve, the night before New Year’s Day.

People in Russia buy a New Year tree, decorate it with colored balls and lights. Children have presents on New Year. At night Father Frost with Snow Maiden come and put present for children under the tree.

Nowadays Russian children write letters to our Father Frost too. Would you like to write your own letter to Father Frost. The Snow Maiden will give it to him. Write what present you want to have on the New Year.

What Am I?

I come with cold and snow,

But you like me and know (winter)

Winter-Time

When it is winter-time

We go up the street,

And we make the snow speak

With our little feet –

“ Crickle, crackle, crickle,

Crrreet, crrreet, crrreet!”

Down comes the snow

On a winter day.

I make a snowman

When I go to play.
