Mariinsk
Mariinsk is one of the oldest towns in Kemerovo region. In 1701 the settlement Kiyskoe first appeared on the map of Russian Empire. In 1857 the village Kiyskoe became a town. It was renamed Mariinsk in honour of empress Mariya in June in 1857.

Mariinsk is situated on the left bank of the river Kiya. This river is very picturesque. In our forests such trees grow as a larch, cedar, fur, a pine and many others. Mariinsk is famous not only by its nature, it is also decorated by buildings with wooden carvings .
Every old building is a monument of architecture. Among them there are such buildings are as museums, the post-office, the town’s library and so on. But main sightseeing’s of town are museums. There are two of them: the local museum and museum of Chivilihin.
As for industry, we have a butter plant, a bread plant, a meet plant and an alcohol factory. The products of our alcohol factory are known all over the country.
Besides 10 schools, there are such educational establishments, as an agricultural school, the school of forestry and a pedagogical college.
