Thanksgiving Day

Each year on last Thursday of November in the USA people celebrate very unusual holiday . Its name is Thanksgiving.

In 1621 the first settlers from Europe came to the North America. The voyage was hard and during the first winter a lot of people had died of hunger or ilnesses.

Fortunately, their neighbours, the Indians, went to the rescue. They helped the newcommers a lot.

Next year the Pilgrims had a great feast to thank God for their new home and to thank their friends Indians

This holiday became national in 1789 after the issued decree by George Wahsington, who proclamed this day as a family holiday for all Americans.

On this day families try to be together. Also there is lots to do in the kitchen.

People cook turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, pumpking pie, and mince pie for dinner

Just like the Pilgrims people give thanks for their food and for being together on Thanksgiving.

Also this day is famouse for bright parades

One of the most famouse symbols of this day is turkey. You can see it everywhere

One of the most popular traditions is the presidential remission of the turkey.
