My native town is Smolensk.

• Smolensk is one of the oldest Russian towns: Like Moscow stands on seven hills, but it is older than Moscow. Smolensk is as old as Kiev and Novgorod. In Ustyug chronicles it was mentioned in the year 863 as the city which was "big and populous”.

There are many sightseeings that attract tourists from all over the world.

Military glory of Smolensk is commemorated by numerous monuments.

The monument to Sophia's Regiment (the war with the Napoleon Army).

But there are many ecological problems in Smolensk.

The Dnieper is polluted.

Water pollution kills fish

There are many plants and factories in Smolensk that pollute air.

Trees are cut down.

Animals are disturbed.

The environment is damaged.

What should we do?

• Become more eco-friendly
• Help wildlife
• Reduce air- and – water pollution
• Plant trees
• Recycle paper, cans, plastic and glass bottles
• Reuse plastic bags
• Clean ponds, rivers, roads

The Earth is Our Home. We want to see it clean and beautiful.
