GLOSSARY of term notions for PBL

  1. Acquaint - make someone aware of or familiar with.

  2. Assess - to carefully consider a situation, person, or problem in order to make a judgment.

  3. Authentic - of undisputed origin and not a copy; genuine.

  4. Authentic Assessment - a form of assessment in which students are asked to perform real-world tasks that demonstrate meaningful application of essential knowledge and skills.

  5. Brainstorming - group discussion to produce ideas or solve problems.

  6. Challenge – something that needs a lot of skill, energy, and determination to deal with or achieve, especially something you have never done before and will enjoy doing.

  7. Coherence - the quality of being logical and consistent.

  8. Complexity - features of something that make it confusing or difficult to deal with.

  9. Creativity - the ability to create new ideas or things using your imagination.

  10. Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally about what to do or what to believe.

  11. Decide – illuminates the key differences between choices and judges particular courses of action.

  12. Dismiss – rids of that which is unworthy of consideration.

  13. Engaged learning is the process in which students actively participate in their learning. Students are involved, beginning on the first day, in the decision making of the course of their study. Students vigorously research, discuss, create projects, and use technology to make discoveries based on their choices. Students are active participants in the learning process. The teacher serves as a "coach or facilitator," guiding students to the desired goal.

  14. Essential Question – the question that will launch a PBL lesson must be one that will engage students.

  15. Evaluate - to think carefully about something before making a judgment about its value, importance, or quality.

  16. Figure something out - solve or discover the cause of a problem.

  17. Inquiry – a question intended to get information about someone or something.

  18. Open-ended question - is one that asks people for a comment or an opinion rather than a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer.

  19. Persuade - provide a sound reason for (someone) to do something.

  20. Predict – create hypothesis about likely outcomes.

  21. Project – is the development of confidence in using English in the real world, the world outside the classroom.

  22. Project Based Learning (PBL) is a systematic teaching method that engages students in learning important knowledge and 21st century skills through an extended, student-influenced inquiry process structured around complex, authentic questions and carefully designed products and learning tasks.

  23. Project-based learning (PBL) is a method of teaching that presents students with a problem or challenge to solve, requires them to gather information from various resources, and asks them to come up with an original solution that ends in a product or performance.

  24. Project-based learning (PBL) is a model for classroom activity that shifts away from the classroom practices of short, isolated, teacher-centered lessons and instead emphasizes learning activities that are long-term, interdisciplinary, student-centered, and integrated with real world issues and practices.

  25. Reasoning - the process of thinking about something in an intelligent sensible way in order to make a decision or form an opinion.

  26. Schedule - a plan of activities or events and when they will happen.

  27. Understand – ability to grasp key traits, elements, and structures.
