Glossary

A volcano is a mountain where lava comes from a magma chamber under the ground.

A volcanic eruption occurs when hot materials are thrown out of a volcano. Lava, rocks, dust, ash and gas components are some of the materials.

Magma is a molten and semi-molten rock mixture found under the surface of the Earth. On the rare occasions when magma breaks the surface, as in a volcanic eruption, it is called lava.

Yellowstone Caldera

There is a biggest volcano in the world called Yellowstone caldera. Caldera is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming, which is a large part of the national park. Few years ago, tourists could go everywhere they want to. But now, scientists are learning things about this volcano. They want exactly know when it will erupt. But they didn’t worm this yet.

Animals and plants

There are more than 350 types of animals and 2000 types of plants in Yellowstone National Park. Also there are endangered animals too. There are birds, deer, bears, wolves and many other animals. Some animals started to immigrate because of now, it is much hotter in Yellowstone National Park now, than before.

The Fire ring

The fire ring is arranged in the Pacific Ocean. It includes 4 continents. There are Australia, Eurasia, North and South America. The number of working volcanos there is 328 and there are 212 volcanos arranged in other places. 90% of earthquakes happened in the Fire ring, and 80 percent of eruptions were terrible

Yellowstone caldera’s danger

Yellowstone caldera was sleeping 220.000 years, and started to grow in 2004, and became very dangerous. It can destroy more than two thirds of USA territory. Here you can see the level of damage would be given to people. People in the purple area would be coated with more than an inch of ash, while people in the blue areas would find themselves buried in it. The USA has already parleyed with a country in Africa called Liberia. It will shelter immigrating people from America.

Size of caldera

Yellowstone caldera is 55 km wide and 72 km tall and generality of the Yellowstone Caldera is under the ground. If it erupts, the eruption will be terrible.
