«Psychological effects of modern technology on children’s development (The example of an essay)»

Nowadays, people cannot imagine their lives without modern technology. Gadgets and different devices have been inculcated in people's lives. Doubtless, technology significantly makes life easier and more comfortable. Thus, everyone has different devices, both adults and children. Children as their parents spend an amount of time surfing on the Internet or playing games. However, does technology have the same influence on children and adults?

It is true that technology can have a good effect on children's development. Some experts say that children interpret information much better with games and bright pictures. Moreover, using gadgets and devices helps children develop such skills as hand-eye coordination, multi-tasking, and reaction time.

On the other hand, if screen time is not properly controlled, there can be negative effects of technology on child development. Not surprisingly, the increase in technology has led to a decrease in reading. Therefore, it has resulted in the unavailability of critical thinking. Children cannot analyze or expand on their thoughts. Some studies have shown that a surplus of information deprives children of the capacity for analyzing. Also, using different devices has a negative impact on a child's attention and imagination. With the various forms of technology available, children are often more distracted and less likely to focus on something. Besides, a lack of reading and a great number of visual stimuli lead to undeveloped imagination. Concerning communicative skills, children become more unsociable. In other words, children spend their free time mostly using either a cell phone or a tablet, and they become secluded.

To sum up, one might conclude that the role of modern technology in a child's development is a rather controversial issue. It seems that it has more corns than pros. Parents should control children and not allow them to spend much time using different gadgets and devices.
