Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and empress of India. Her reign was the second longest in British history and came to be known as the Victorian era.  Victoria was the only child of Prince Edward (Duke of Kent) and Princess Victoria Mary Louisa of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Prince Edward (1767-1820) was the fourth son of King George lll.

Queen Victoria was born in1819. Her father died eight months after she was born.  Victoria was part of a family of Germans, mainly called George, who came from Hanover. Victoria's first language was German. At three years old she learnt to speak English and French.
