The flight from London to South Africa didn't begin at 9 o'clock. It was a little delayed. The plane belonged to the British Airways. It was a big plane with four engines.
At ten o'clock we started. I sat next to Michael. He is a former pilot but now he works as a lawyer.
Michael is my permanent companion in my journeys to Africa. This trip promised to be very interesting.
It included our visits to several villages situated in the South of the continent. The trip could offer many unusual things.
At eleven o'clock when we were over the British Channel Michael told me he didn't like the sound of
the engine. Soon the stewardess said that something was not quite right with the engine again. She told us it wasn't very important as there were three good engines on the plane and we were "OK".
However, when we got near Africa, the passengers were telling each other that the second and the third engines didn't work. We all felt rather bad. At that time we were flying over the land of Africa with its wild animals; tigers, lions, and snakes. We were thinking about death.
Suddenly we heard the captain's voice on the plane radio, "Ladies and gentlemen, I have bad news for you".
I saw that many faces became white. Some people began crying. I felt terrible. The captain continued in a loud voice: "I have to inform that England has lost her last football match against Scotland!"

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest novelists in the English language. He was born in 1812. He wrote about the real world of Victorian England and many of his characters were not rich, middle-class
ladies and gentlemen, but poor and hungry people.
His family lived in London. His father was a clerk in an office. It was a good job, but he always spent more money than he earned and he was often in debt. There were eight children in the family, so life was hard.
Charles went to school and his teachers thought he was very clever. But suddenly, when he was eleven, his father went to prison for his debts and the family went too. Only Charles didn’t go to prison.
He went to work in a factory, where he washed bottles. He worked ten hours a day and earned six shillings (30 pence) a week. Every night, after work, he worked four miles back to his room. Charles hated it and never forgot the experience. He used it in many novels, especially David Copperfield and Oliver Twist.
When he was sixteen, he started work for a newspaper. He visited law courts and the House of Parliament. Soon he was one of the Morning Chronicle’s best journalists. He also wrote short stories for magazines. These were funny descriptions of the people that he met. Dickens characters were full of
colour and life – good people were very good and bad people were horrible. His books became popular in many countries and he spent a lot of time abroad, in America, Italy, and Switzerland.
Dickens had ten children, but he didn’t have a happy family life. He was successful in his work but not at home, and his wife left him. He never stopped writing and traveling, and he died very suddenly in
1870.

Diana Spencer was born on the first of July 1961 in England. She had two older sisters and a younger brother. In childhood she liked games, swimming, running and dancing. She wanted to become a dancer. Besides she loved children very much and at the age of sixteen she worked in schools for very young children.
Diana became princess, when Prince Charles, the Queen's son, asked her to be his wife and they got married. They seemed to be a happy couple at first. They had two sons. They travelled a lot they worked a lot, they visited many countries together. But Diana was not quite happy because they did different things and Charles didn't understand her.
Why was Diana the most famous, the most beautiful, the most photographed woman in the world?
Why did she win the hearts of millions and millions of people in many countries? Why did so many people come to London to remember her when she died? Why did the car accident which took her life, become such a total shock to crowds of people? Why did people feel the need to be in London at the funeral? Why did the tears and love at the funeral move the world?
The answer is so simple. Matthew Wall, a student at St. Michael's College in Burlington said: "She was such a lovely lady. She did so much for those people less fortunate that herself".
She was a kind woman. Hundreds of people talked about Diana's kindnesses. She liked ordinary people, though she was rich and had many rich friends. Wherever she was, she was always ready to lend a hand. She was devoted to the sick and the poor. She visited hospitals for people with AIDS and for lepers and wasn't afraid to touch them, talk to them, listen to them.
She worked on children's charities, and had teamed up with Hillary Clinton in an effort to ban
andmines. And it's not only money, that she wanted to give people. She wanted to give them a part of her soul, to make them happy because she was unhappy herself. She wanted to give them love, because she needed love herself.
Rock stars (Sting, Elton John), pop singer George Michael, film stars and producers (Tom Hanks,
Steven Spilberg, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise) and other famous people were among her friends. But she had more friends among ordinary people.
Diana was seen many times in floods of tears, because of the pressures of her loveless 15-year marriage. It is not a secret that Diana was hounded and humiliated to the point of mental breakdown and was able to pull through only because she knew she had the love of the people to buoy her in her darkest hours.
She was, indeed, the People's Princess.
