GETTING AROUND DONETSK

Visiting towns depends on your tastes but you will be surprised by our trip. Is it interesting to stay at home on your weekends? Let`s catch a glimpse of our town. You will not be disappointed. If you walk along only one street, Artyoma Street, you`ll learn a lot. It will take us not much time.
We`ll start our acquaintance with Donetsk from Lenin Square. It is the heart of our town. To the right hand of it there is the Philharmonic Society named after S. Prokof`yev and to the left one - the Donetsk Drama Theatre.
There are four theatres in Donetsk and only three ones are in the main street. This theatre was founded in Kharkov in 1927 but on the seventh of November, 1933 the first season was opened in Donetsk. However, this theatre hasn`t had its own building for many years and only in 1961 its troupe found the house. Its building has magnificent columns outside and Melpomene on the roof. The height of Greek goodness is about 4 meters. She has a palm branch in her hands. This statue was erected only in 2005.
The second theatre is not far from the Donetsk Drama Theatre. It is the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. It was founded in1932. But the opening of it happened only in 1941. The building is made in a classical style with moldings inside. This theatre was named after A. Solov`yanenko in 1999 whose golden statue we can find in the Theatrical Square. Its height is about 4 meters, too.
Turn right, cross the road and you will see the third theatre - the Theatre of Cinema named after Shevchenko which faces to the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. Its history has begun since 1939. We don`t need any transport and walk again.
