Hello, everybody. I’m glad to see you today. Welcome to our lesson. I hope you enjoy it. Our task is to brush up our knowledge about famous universities

Личностные: развитие познавательных интересов, учебных мотивов;

 развитие доброжелательности, доверия и внимательности к окружающим;

формирование готовности к сотрудничеству, оказанию помощи.

II. Совместное целеполагание. Сообщение темы урока и плана урока

Have a look at the screen. Here you can see some pictures. Tell me please, what connects them? What associations do you have seeing these pictures? So today we are going to learn and work with the information about Cambridge university. And we’ll tell about one of the most famous universities St. Petersburg State University in Russia. And the topic of our lesson is “Universities of St. Petersburg and Cambridge”.

What is the problem of our lesson? What should we know about? Давайте определим задачи нашего сегодняшнего занятия.

I can see the photos of the most famous universities in Russia and Great Britain. They are St. Petersburg State University and Cambridge University.

I think, one of the same features of these universities is their popularity. But the system of studying in these universities is different.

III. Актуализация усвоения изученного материала

1. Let’s revise our active vocabulary. Repeat after me. (Учитель читает слова, обучающиеся повторяют за ним.) Now, try to match the Russian words and word combinations with their English equivalents.

2. I’d like to introduce you with some facts of these universities. Look at the screen, read them and translate. Which university, do you think, these facts are about?

Did you know that these great and famous people graduated St. Petersburg State University?

Well, let’s read some striking facts about this university.

Tell me, please, what do you know about Cambridge University?

Now, let’s get acquaintance with Cambridge University closely.

And among the alumnae of Cambridge University were the these great people: Isaac Newton English physicist is best known for his theory about the law of gravity.

Charles Darwin English naturalist whose scientific theory of evolution by natural selection became the foundation of modern evolutionary studies. Oliver Cromwell a political and military leader in 17th century England.  

Gorge Gordon Byron British Romantic poet and satirist whose poetry and personality captured the imagination of Europe. Winston Churchill British statesman, orator, and author who as prime minister (1940–45, 1951–55). Prince Charles the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II. He is the longest-serving Prince of Wales.

These facts are about St. Petersburg State University. It was founded by Peter the Great.
