Epiphany

Epiphany is one of the main holidays in the Orthodox calendar. It is celebrated on the 19 th of January. On this day believers remember the christening (крещение) of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River.

One of the main traditions of Epiphany is bathing in an ice hole (прорубь), which symbolizes purification (очищение) from sins (грехов). It is believed that water on this day has special properties (свойства) and can heal (исцелить) the soul and body.
