Seasons of a year

Everybody knows there are 4 seasons in a year: spring, summer, autumn, winter. Every season is beautiful in its own way. I’d like to start speaking about seasons with spring. In my opinion, it is the most pleasant season of the year. Usually at the beginning of spring it is called as it was in our town Shakhty this year. At the end of March the snow melts quickly and one can again see patches of earth. The weather gets warmer. The snow thaws, long icicles glitter in the sun. the first spring birds have come back from the warm countries and are making nests in the trees. The banks of the river Don are usually covered with melting snow, which has lost its whiteness and looks grey. The air is fresh. It smelts of the damp earth and the buds of the trees. The first flowers appear in own town. The buds into tiny young leaves. The apple trees are in blossom in May feeling the air with fragrance. Spring is the season of planting, ploughing and sowing. In May spring is in full bloom. As for my friend he prefers summer to any other season. Summer time is holiday time. In our region the weather is usually fair and sun. Sometimes the wind blows up. Suddenly black clouds cover the sky. It becomes hot and stuffy. A thunderstorm begins. It lightens and it thunders. On a day like this we say it is raining cats and dogs. After the rain everything looks fresh and lovely again. The sun shines brightly and sparkles on the water. Strange as it may seem by my mother’s favorite season is autumn. It is rainy season. The sky is covered with grey clouds. Sometimes there is a spell of sunny weather in September which we called “Indian summer”. Autumn is the harvest season. Days and nights people are busy on the fields. Best of all I like the work in the orchard, picking fruit. I like apples, pears, cherries very much. I like to go for a walk in September. The forest is very colorful in autumn. The ground is covered with autumn leaves. It often drizzles. The streets are wet and people pick their way between the puddles. Many people thing that autumn is a gloomy season, but I find it colorful even in the rain. As for my father he likes winter best. It is the season of snowstorm and ice, of frozen rivers and ponds. For me, winter has its own interest and beauty. In our region winter, as a rule, begins in December. In winter the sky is grey and covered with low clouds, snowflakes fall from the sky and we say it snows. The snow lies deep. The rivers and lakes are frozen and covered with ice. It is very cold the air is frosty. In winter people have wonderful holidays: Christmas and New Year. Winter is one of the best season for sports: skating, skiing, playing hockey. Winter brings a lot of fun. Some words about English weather. The weather in England is very changeable. A fine morning can change into a wet afternoon and evening. A nasty morning can changed to a fine afternoon. That is why it is natural for the English to use the compression as the weather of a person who often changes his mood or opinion about something. Other countries have a climate. In England we have weather. This statement is often made by the English. The English also say that they have three variants of weather. When it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon, when it rains all day long. The weather is the favorite conversational topic in England. When English go abroad they often surprise people of other nationalities by the tendencies to talk about the weather. The best time of year in England is spring (of course it rains in spring too). The 2 worst months in Britain are January and February. They are cold damp and unpleasant.
