People often argue about the role of theatre in the development of our civilization. This question seems rather controversial toconributed to our society and without teatre mankid seems impossible to exist.

As for me, I consider theatre to be of higher priority as it helps make our lives more interesting. Still, the theatre is an inseparable part of the intellectual life of any country. We can even say that the theatre as an art reflects the state of society and of the mind of the nation. In every country theatre has its own history, traditions and peculiarities.
There are a lot of theatres in Russia and some of them are popular all over the world. In Moscow theatre-goers try not to miss the first nights at the Vakhtangov, Sovremennik, or Khudozhestvenny (Art) theatres. Lovers of classic music never miss a chance to visit the Philharmonic Society Hall. Opera and ballet lovers can go to Mariinsky opera house and Maly opera house. Those who are fond of drama visit the Bolshoi Drama Theatre, Alexandrinsky Theatre, Open Theatre and many others. Many new theatres and studios have appeared during the last five or ten years.

In the other hand a person reacts differently to each type of art, but this is a purely personal reaction. Art is for this purpose and necessary to provoke a person, to make him artificially feel different emotions. I do not consider theatre to be a special form of popular culture, but I admit that the niche in which it is located cannot be empty. A theatre, like any other art, evolves over time, but now it is not alone in its expression.

Cinema is to some extent a rival of the theatre, but they still have different goals. In the cinema, the picture floating in front of you is a continuous process that the viewer perceives with unprecedented ease, sometimes without even thinking about where and why, and in the theatre you can make contact with some other dimension, a different atmosphere, which is impossible in a movie. The spectator in the hall and the actor on the stage during the performance constantly exchange emotions, there is visual and sensual contact. Therefore, cinema, in the form in which it is now, will never replace theatre.

Theatrical art can be considered as a certain way of education. This is a living word, it acts on the viewer in a unique way when you hear it live. The theater has always been a reflection of reality, society as a mirror showed its vulnerabilities, its problems and achievements. Addressing social problems is one of the most important tasks of the theatre.

To sum up, I believe that theatre has been more beneficial to mankid. Nevertheless, we should not underestimate the importance of theatre as it advance our understanding of art. Perhaps the role of theatre in the modern world it's new and new contacts with the viewer will be invented, new variations on timeless, classic themes. But the theatre has a certain burden, a kind of obligation - it is used to observe it in a certain way, in its manner, which has existed for centuries.
