Hobbies.
Life is more interesting when you have a hobby. People have different hobbies.
One of the most popular activities is sports. Millions of people like sports and games. There are stadiums, sport grounds, gyms and swimming-pools in every city. Adults and children go skiing, skating, running or swimming. They also play football, hockey, tennis, chess and other games. Sport makes them healthy and fit.
Some people enjoy making or collecting things. They draw pictures, collect coins, toys or postcards. Many children play computer games.
As for me, I like listening to music and playing Monopoly or Scrabble. I also like books. My favourite writer is J. Rowling. My favourite books are about Harry Potter.
My day.
My name is________________ . I am 13 and I live in Kirov. I study in the Lyceum of Natural Sciences in the 6th form.
From Monday to Saturday I get up at 7 o`clock. After breakfast I go to the Lyceum. My lessons start at 8 am and finish at 2 pm. We have 6 or 7 lessons every day. My favorite subjects are ______________ and ________________ . They are very interesting.
After lessons I go home. We always have lots of homework.
In the evening I have dinner with my family. After dinner we watch TV and discuss our day.
Usually I go to bed at 10 pm. Sometimes I read before I go to sleep.
On Sunday I don`t go to school. I can sleep longer and go out with my friends.
My flat.
I live in Kirov in a beautiful neighbourhood. It is green and clean. There is a supermarket opposite my house. Next to the supermarket, there is a bank.
My house is new. My flat is on the 4th floor. There are 3 rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen in my flat.
My room is big and cozy. There is a bed, a table, a bookcase and a wardrobe in it. There are nice curtains on the window. There is a computer on my table. There is a big carpet on the floor.
In the kitchen there is a fridge, a cooker and a table with chairs. I like my flat.
Seasons and weather.
There are 4 seasons in a year: winter, spring, summer and autumn. December, January and February are winter months. Winter is the coldest season. The weather is frosty, snowy and windy. People wear warm coats, boots, hats, scarves and gloves.
March, April and May are spring months. The weather is warm and sunny in spring. The trees become green.
June, July and August are summer months. Summer is the hottest season of the year. People wear T-shirts, shorts, light dresses and sandals.
September, October and November are autumn months. It is cool and rainy in autumn. The weather is often foggy and cloudy. People wear raincoats and use umbrellas.
A famous person.
I want to tell you about a famous person Walt Disney.
Walt Disney was born on the 5th of December 1901 in Chicago, the USA. He liked drawing and he sold his first sketches to his neighbours when he was 7 years old.
In August 1923 he went to Hollywood. He had only $40 with him. His brother Roy lived in California and together they started the Disney Brothers studio in their uncle`s garage.
Walt created his most famous character Mickey Mouse in 1928.
Walt Disney won 32 Academy Awards. He made 81 films. His most famous films are “Flowers and Trees”, “Pinocchio” and “Bambi”.
Walt Disney died in 1966. Children all over the world enjoy his films and cartoons.
My native city.
I live in Kirov. Kirov is my native city.
The city is very old. It was founded in 1457. Its first name was Khlynov. Later it was named Vyatka. In 1934 it was named Kirov.
Kirov stands on the river Vyatka. About 500 000 people live in it.
The city is very beautiful. There are long green streets with tall modern houses and nice old streets with old historical buildings in Kirov.
The city has many museums, monasteries and churches, theatres and cinemas. Children can watch funny shows in the Circus.
The center of the city is Theatre Square. There is the University, the Drama Theatre and the Administration in the Theatre Square. There is also a beautiful fountain with a nice garden around it. People come to have a rest here.

Environment.
Our planet is our home. Forests give us fresh air, berries and mushrooms. Rivers give us water.
But the Earth has a lot of problems. There are so many factories and cars that the air is very dirty. People cut down forests. They hunt animals and kill them. They throw away rubbish.
There are some organizations, which help the planet. Greenpeace and WWF protect nature. They save wild animals and birds in the forests. They also save trees and clean rivers.
We can help the planet, too. People must not leave rubbish when they have a picnic in the forest. Children can make birdhouses and feed the birds in winter.

My school
My name is... I’m 13. I’m in the sixth form. I study in the Lyceum of Natural Sciences in Kirov. My school is the best. My school has got three floors. There is a gym and a school canteen on the first floor. All classrooms of our school are light and comfortable. There are physics and chemistry labs and computer rooms, too.
School starts at 8:00 am and finishes at 3:00 pm from Monday to Saturday. There are 25 students in my class and we have 6-7 lessons every day. Each lesson lasts 40 minutes. We study a lot of different subjects: Russian, English, History, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Maths. My favourite lessons are History and Maths. They are very interesting. We have lunch in the school canteen at quarter past eleven.
Our school year has three terms. It begins on the1st of September and finishes in May.

The longest river is the Volga, the deepest lake is the Baikal. The most famous mountains in Russia are the Urals. The Russian Federation borders on many countries. The population of Russia is about 145 million people.
Moscow is the capital of our country. It was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgoruky. There are many interesting places in Moscow.

Great Britain
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles.
The United Kingdom includes four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. London is the capital of the UK but also the capital of England. London is a big wonderful city. There are a lot of interesting places in London: Big Ben, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and many others. The Queen lives in Buckingham Palace.
The transport in London is very surprising. You can take a Red Double-Decker Bus and a famous English taxi - the Black cab. Many people also use the Underground.
The capital of Wales is Cardiff. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh and the capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast.
The flag of the UK is the Union Jack.
The UK is a small country. Its population is over 63 million people. But it is a great place to visit.
Moscow
Moscow is the capital of Russia. It is one of the largest cities in Europe. It was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgoruky. Eleven million people live in Moscow. Many tourists visit Moscow every year.
There are a lot of interesting places in Moscow. You can see the Kremlin, Red Square, beautiful monasteries and churches, historic buildings, museums and theatres. The most famous is the Bolshoi Theatre.
The Moscow Zoo is the largest zoo in Russia. It has a lot of animals and birds. There are tigers, bears, lions, foxes, monkeys, elephants, snakes and fish. You can spend a day there.
The Moscow metro is the most popular transport. It is very fast, but it is always very busy. People call it “The Undeground Palace”, because many stations are very beautiful.
Moscow is a great place to visit.
Holidays in Great Britain.
There are a lot of holidays in Great Britain. They are Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, St.Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Guy Fawkes Day, Halloween and others.
The most popular holiday is Christmas. People give each other presents and send Christmas cards. People also have a traditional family dinner of turkey and Christmas pudding. There is a Christmas tree in every house. Children believe that Santa Clause will bring them presents.
The day after Christmas is Boxing Day. People open the boxes with presents and visit their friends.
The 14th of February is St.Valentine’s Day. People buy or make Valentine cards and send them to people they love.
The 31st of October is Halloween. It is a very old traditional holiday. Children wear scary costumes and make lanterns out of pumpkins.
It is interesting that New Year is not popular in England, Wales and Northern Ireland but it is an important holiday in Scotland.
Russian holidays
There are many holidays and traditions in Russia. The main holidays are: New Year's Day, Women's Day, May Day, Victory Day, and Independence Day.
There are also some special Russian celebrations in our country.
In spring we celebrate Maslenitsa. The Russians also call this holiday the Spring Festival. It lasts for a week.
Russian people say «goodbye» to winter and welcome spring.
Everybody has a great time. It’s a time of singing, dancing and fun.
On that day people eat traditional food – pancakes. Children wear costumes and play in the snow, go sledging, have snowball fights.
People make a straw doll of “Lady Maslenitsa” and dress it up in special clothes. Finally, there is a big bonfire where people burn Lady Maslenitsa.
I like this old Russian tradition. I like to eat pancakes and I like spring best of all.
