I am glad to see all of you! Let’s start our competition! At first, I would like you to revise the grammar rules of this tense of the verb. What is the Present Continuous? When do we use it? Can you give me the Kazakh and Russian equivalents to it?
Pupils: Созылыңқы осы шақ. Настоящее длительное время.
Teacher: If you remember we have passed this subject. Can you find this subject in your textbooks and read the definition in Kazakh?
Pupils will find and read the definition in the textbook.
Teacher: I ask you to pay attention to the board.
The Present Continuous Tense is used to talk about an action going on at the time of speaking. When we talk about things that happen now – at this moment – we can use the Present Continuous tense.
How to form the Present Continuous tense
There are three parts to this tense:
1. Subject / Subject pronoun
2. Verb "to be"
3. Verb + ing
Use the verb "to be" as the auxiliary for questions and negatives (NOT do / does).
Here are the ways you can form affirmative, negative and questions in the Present Continuous:
Affirmative sentences
I am working
You are working
He / She / It is working
We are working
They are working
Negative sentences
I am not / I'm not working
You are not / You aren't working
He / She / It is not / He / She / It isn't working
We are not / We aren't working
They are not / They aren't working
Questions
Am I working?
Are you working?
Is he / Is she / Is it working?
Are we working?
Are they working?
Spelling rules
When the verb ends in a single vowel and consonant, double the consonant before adding -ing:
run = running
sit = sitting
When the verb ends in -e, delete the -e and add -ing:
make = making
write = writing
But if the verb ends -ee, don't delete the -e:
agree = agreeing
Some verbs that end -ie change to -y + ing
die = dying
tie = tying
lie = lying
The competition consists of 4 rounds.
1. Presentation of groups
2. Writing the -ing forms of the words.
3. What are they doing?
4. Make things speak.
Our honourable jury will put and count the number of the right answers. They have evaluation cards on their table. Every right answer gives one point to your group.
