William Shakespeare was an outstanding English poet and dramatist. He is often called England`s national poet and “the Bard of Avon”.

William Shakespeare was born in April, in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. His father was a rich citizen. He studied at Grammar school. At the age of 18 he married the 26-year-old Anne Hathaway and had three children, three daughters.

In 1585 William Shakespeare went to work to London and began a successful career as an actor and writer. He worked at a new theatre ‘Globe”, which he had built with his friends. At this time he began writing his plays.

In 1611 he returned to Stratford where he died in 1616 and was buried in the Holy Trinity Church.

Shakespeare wrote many talented dramas, tragedies, comedies and sonnets. The most famous are “Hamlet”, “King Lear”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Othello”, “The 12 th Night”.

People all over the world admire his great masterpieces.
