Classicism in architecture
-ceremonial solemnity, decorative, tension and dynamism of the images.
– a rational perception of all being, the ultimate clarity and crisp lines, logic and a strict hierarchy.
Charles Cameron (1746 - 1812)
Born in London, the son of a building contractor.
In 1779 invited to Russia for the construction of the baths in Tsarskoуe Selo.
His most outstanding works in this ensemble are: a complex term incorporating "Cold baths", "Agate rooms" (1779-1785), walking "Cameron gallery" and "the Hanging garden" (1783-1786).
Starting from 1779 until 1786 Cameron worked in Pavlovsk for the Grand Dukes.
In 1803-1806 he was the chief architect of the Admiralty.
Played a significant role in the development of Mature classicism in Russian architecture, combining Palladian ideas and a desire to archaeologically accurate "revival" of antiquity.
