A good education has been valued at all times. But now the level and quality of education often determines the place that a person can take in society, the possibilities of his professional career. If we talk about society as a whole, then the level of its competitiveness in the world economic system depends on the education of the country's population. After all, modern equipment and technologies require workers who not only automatically perform certain operations, but understand the meaning of what they are doing, are able to independently assess the situation and make creative decisions.

The role of education at the present stage of Russia's development is determined by the tasks of its transition to a democratic and legal state, to a market economy, the need to overcome the danger of the country's lagging behind world trends in economic and social development.

In the modern world, the importance of education as the most important factor in the formation of a new quality of the economy and society is increasing along with the growing influence of human capital. The Russian education system is able to compete with the education systems of advanced countries. At the same time, broad support from the public for the ongoing educational policy, restoration of responsibility and an active role of the state in this area, deep and comprehensive modernization of education with the allocation of the necessary resources and the creation of mechanisms for their effective use are needed.

In the 21st century, humanity will be forced to solve new global problems. These are the awareness of the exhaustion of the world's natural resources, the energy crisis, environmental problems, the problem of providing humanity with the necessary resources (food, industrial raw materials, energy, etc.), human health problems, the problem of human poverty, a reassessment of industrial development directions, a radical improvement in social living conditions people, expanding the physical boundaries of the human environment, ensuring peace for all peoples, regulating the rapid population growth in developing countries, etc. A plausible hypothesis is that 21st century education is the key to solving these global problems of the modern world. The normal existence of any society is impossible without the full functioning and development of the higher education system. The place of education in the life of society is largely determined by the role played in the social development of people's knowledge, their experience, abilities, skills, opportunities for the development of their professional and personal qualities.

The development of the economy in the coming decades, according to experts, will be determined by resources that have two different colors: “black gold” and “gray matter”. It is no coincidence that many economically developed and rapidly developing countries, while developing national doctrines, concepts and programs for sustainable and safe development, include the development of national education systems as one of their strategic directions. Education is the most important and therefore the highest priority function of the state. At the same time, the state should not bind Russia's development strategy, relying only on its natural resources, figuratively speaking, it should not bind the fate of Russia only with gas and oil pipes.

The informatization of the world community now taking place is a scientific and real fact. This objective process is also typical for Russia. The most profoundly growing role of knowledge and information in social development is reflected in the concept of an information society, the formation of an information civilization. Information and knowledge are becoming the “fundamental social factor” that underlies economic development. The fact that knowledge occupies key positions in economic development, turning into the main source of value in a post-industrial, information society, radically changes the place of education in the structure of public life, the correlation of such spheres as education and economics. The acquisition of new knowledge, information, skills, skills, the need for their permanent renewal and development are becoming fundamental characteristics of workers in the post-industrial economy.

Education and upbringing contribute to personal development. In this case, it would seem, there is no need to talk about developmental education. But life shows that teaching carries out the developmental function of teaching more effectively if it has a special developmental orientation and includes students in such activities that develop their sensory perception, motor, intellectual, volitional, emotional, motivational spheres. In this regard, in didactics in the 60s. the special term "developmental learning" appeared. He assumes that in the course of training, in addition to the formation of knowledge and special skills, it is necessary to take special measures for the general development of students. True, it should be emphasized that training has always been developing, but the range of developed qualities due to the lack of focus on this content and teaching methods was somewhat narrowed. In this sense, the transition to developing learning meant expanding the sphere of developing influences, strengthening the creative elements in educational activities.

In works devoted to the problem of developing education, various principles and ways of solving it have been put forward. The most famous are the provisions that for the intensive development of thinking in the learning process, it is necessary to provide teaching at a high level of difficulty, to ensure that students are aware of their learning actions at a fast pace.

At the same time, development cannot be reduced to the formation of only thinking. As mentioned above, it should cover all areas of the personality. And therefore, modern didactics is looking for ways to expand the developmental influence of teaching. A feature of the development function is that it does not exist independently, but is a consequence of the educational and upbringing function of training. But the intensity, versatility, breadth and depth of development depend on how education and upbringing will be implemented.
